Electric Start will not work

I have a 1997 Venture.....the electric start was working fine until it failed completely last winter. Now when I turn the key, the sled will not respond in any way. I checked the wires and fuses and all look in tact. I would rather not have to load up the sled to bring to a repair shop if a relatively simple fix will solve the problem. Do you have any thoughts on what might be the problem...how might I diagnose the problem?

Is there something like a solidnoid that needs to be replaced similar to what is used in car? Are there any particular failure points on an electric starter?
 
did you take a tester to the starter and see if you are getting power when you turn the key to the starter....almost sounds like a bad ground or a dead battery...have you tried jumping it.
 
I agree.....I used a tester yesterday and it did work but I am not sure if Iwas able to locate all the appropriate contact. I tried the battery lead and starter switch interconnect and power seemed to be flowing properly. Are there particular parts/wires I should try?
 
well I am thinking you need to get right on the starter leads...to find power...and you need full volts, could be a relay, but lets rule this out 1st
