I dont see any rub throughs, but it has to be while my speedo backlight flickers and i get a burp (really quick engine shutoff) when i hit the highbeams. either that or a stator. i'm really hoping wrapping each wire seperatly and rerouting it will solve it. No big deal, i just dont want to end up being stranded so i figured i'd check it out.

My sled was doing the same as yours and it was a bolt that held the stator on that had backed out and was bouncing around in there. It is still a good idea to re-route your wiring harness also.

Wasn't there a recall for the highbeam relay? My dealer swapped relays/and or added a jumper when I had it in for a cracked exhaust inder warranty.

hmm interesting. I rarely use my highbeam on my 01 because my lowbeams are bright as hell, They are aftermartket bulbs though. Where is this relay located? left footwell area?

Can't remember off hand. I think it was. I'll look for the old relay and box that I think I still have. My dealer didn't actually do the swap but handed me the relay when I picked up the sled and I told them I'd do the swap.

I found the box which has no part number on it and the old, blue relay. The numbers stamped on the relay I pulled out are 1UY-92 ACA22115-1.

I seem to remember it was for high beam delay when starting or some such thing and it affected early built 2001 SRX and SXR as my buddy and I bought at the same time and he was the one who turned me on to the issue.

Mine rubbed thru under the engine

I have Viper wireharness from a crashed sled, really "new". $35 bucks it and it's yours. I have lots of viper parts. CDI, Carbs, ect

I have a 1999 yamaha srx 700 with only 2500 miles on it. It sat in storage for 10 years and last season I started riding again. All of a sudden one night I started it and had no lights what so ever. I tried changing all the voltage regulators to no avail. I stripped the harness under the engine and found no rub throughs. The hand warmers had broken and shorted out, so I unplugged them and installed new dash lights, which now stay on but still no headlight and no tail/stop light. At one point this past winter when the headlight shorted the black wire melted at the bulb. I know a lot about 12 volt wire systems but am at a loss. I have found numerous bad wire connections from the factory and repaired them. Still no lights. My next move is to see if the stator has a problem . Does this sled have a seperate lighting coil?
Please help , this sled is way tooo fast to give up on,and winter is just around the
corner.
I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED
