97 Vmax skid swap

I used standard flat head rivets but they were Stainless and I drilled from the outside to the inside of the unnel. The length of the rivet was a short one though. I went to fastenal and picked up a box but you might want to look somewhere else, I paid $100 Cdn for 500 and only needed like 20 or 30. I suggest you go to a boat builder place and see if u can buy a handful. you are going to love the change in stance and feel.

Yamiluke Do you have a picture of the skid you bought? Reason I asked is I'm doing a similar swap into my 98 Mtn Srx. I bought a 151 skid from a 01 polaris and not sure what it is called m-10 or xtra 10 or? I also need the measurements and no access to the polaris.

I dont have any pics of it to send now...I can try and snap a few before I start putting it in. What sled did the skid come out of that you bought? That will tell you what it is. Mine wont be the same measurements as that though being a 151. Mine is a 121.

Hmm good deal, maybe I will just take a sample of one down to the fastener shop and see what they suggest. I looked at the rivets they say come in the tunnel stock at the dealership, but they are aluminum? All the rivets in my tunnel are steel.

I did a different finish on my tunnel which is why I went Stainless, I alos put extra in because I want it to be strong. Stock rivets are steel or at least my Vmax they were.
I would never suggest Aluminum just because of the strength needed doing the odd jump or something.

I just measured the plate on my expert X and its .110 aluminum. I doubt you need anything heavier then that. I used ss pop rivets.

I would prefer thin plates on the tunnel, but then what for the skid? I believe when I measured it, it was almost an inch narrower than the stock skid. Can I just make a bushing or collar and use a longer bolt, or is that not wise?

Heres a link to a post with a picture of the skid. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=63570
