1992 Exciter II Revving Issues

Shure it could be plugs but if it falls flat at 2500 and sounds like a honda moter on its rev limiter it is the tors as said by others and myself.I dont no if bypassing the loop at the carbs eliminates the trottle flipper but i do no if the cable is to tight when the carbs are installed it will do this.Very common thing to happen.There has to be some freeplay in the trottle or the little switch will not work at the trottle flipper,as i said the flipper will rotate backwords at the hinge and ingage the switch.If it does not you wont go anywere.You can ride half a day and it will be fine and than after a stop it will start to give you a problem.
 
did you check your fuel pulse lines, the one that goes from the engine base to the fuel pump for a tear or crack. that controls the vaccuum for fuel flow.
 
I am having the similar problem with my exciter. Once i have ridden my sled for about 30-45min it starts cutting (missing) out a like 5,000 rpm. Someone told me that it might be my coil messing up once it gets warm. I have not tried to fix it yet do to, no snow yet.

My plugs look great when hit the kill swithch right away, the clutching is working great, it's just pain in the butt problem.
 
I have not checked the fuel pulse lines as they are all new. I have not hit the kill switch while running the engine. I wont have a chance to check it till thursday so i will double check the cable again as like Bluewho said and i will also put new plugs in to check the difference between cylinders if there is any.
 
Ohlm your plug wires.

If you did not replace the plug wires I would check them as they go bad over time. Disconnect the plug wires from the plugs and CDI and then check the Ohlm reading you get through the wire. They go back over time and cause a multitude of run issues. I don't know the exact Ohlm reading you should get - maybe someone on T.Y. here knows what it should be for your year and model sled - but, I have had issues in the past that I couldn't find and pulled my hair out until I checked my plug wires to find that they were bad.

well i just got to be able to check the wires does anyone know where they should be ? i rebuilt my fuel pump and tried it and same issue. so its not my pump . i swapped out my coil for the one from my spare sled and that didnt help either. any one help i need to get this sled running soon. thanks for reading. if anyone can come up with something letme know.
 
1992 Yamaha exciter wont rev up

I have a 1992 Exciter that idles great all day long and wont run on the top end, when it starts to fall on its face and I shut off the fuel supply it revs up and runs great until it runs out of fuel, cant figure out what is going on .

time to replace the needle and seats put 1.5 viton tip ones in not the factory all metal yamaha ones
