if the revs are high you have to add more weight to thr primary ,if low reduce the weight. i think turk ment to use 6 1gram washers ,one for each rivet .like he said your gonna need lots of weight to keep the revs down where they should be with that kind of gearing . it will be easier to clutch when you get some more traction under it,your gonna blow that 1.25" track right off which make it harder to clutch.

You gotta ride it on snow in cold temps to properly clutch a sled. Keyboard clutching can only get ya kinda sorta closeish.

no i don't got any to trade.the closest i have is a 53/47 but thats the one i run most of the time.when the snow gets good i could go for a spin with ya and point you in the right direction to get it dialed in. i think turks recomendation will be very close ,might just need some fine tuning when ya get it on the snow.kirk700 srx said:Thanks 9801srx The track Is also on its way, just hope the wife dont divorce me first! lol... Wow this post was one of the first I posted. I sold the old srx and bought a nytro which i recently sold also, Now I am in the process of trying to dial in the mountain srx. I need a little guidance once again. On WOT sled revs to 8300 and then drops to 7800/7900 I am running 8dn20 with 4.5 in both holes YWY and a green at 80* 51/43 yammi helix. All valves are mint and adjusted and carbs are clean and air screws are set at 2 1/8 turns out help me out guys Top end im dropping on rpm

you got issues somewhere in my opinion if your not able to pull only a 43 degree finish angle with the rest of your set up,(stock is 47 helix) that yamaha helix should actually make it over rev some on topend as its a little too shallow for a srx on topend. The other parts of your set up would be ok and should have made it over rev.
Give me a little more information to work off of, jetting, any other mods and temp your riding it in,thanx

Everything else is stock, gearing is 21/39, jetting is 143.3,146.3 148.8 42.5 pilots.
13/4 back country track, hauck growlers 3 into 3. My fuel guage goes on the blink every now and then. Riding temps anywhere between -10 C and -30 C. I have had the carbs off a dozen times and each time they were nice and clean.

hmmm, your jetted down on engine, that jetting should be for 4 degree celcius which is awfully warm out, for snow riding you need to be around 146.3/147.5 jets, depnds on your elevation but you may be lean on the jets and the engine will lose rpm if its lean on top, they like to have fuel. Second possible thing is the secondary spring is not any good, with the gearing and primary spring, helix, you should be over revving. The rear sec clutch is torq sensing meaning when it sees a drop in torq/power it backshifts, while your front clutch is trying to upshift, so your gonna get a loss in rpm and "go flat" feeling.
Easiest thing to do to see if your having a engine issue is to look at the wash on piston tops and look at plugs after a pull, should be cardboard brown and not white. Next thing is if thats all good is increase the rear secondary spring tension, and see if rpm rise on top. I would increase the tension 10 degrees each time and see if the rpm comes up if it does, then:
1.)the rear spring is tired
2.) helix angle too big or
3.) your riding in wet slushy snow and that big lug track will draw down the engine in wet heavy snow. You may need to use a stiffer secondary spring, like yamaha silver at 70-80 if when you get the green wound up to above 90.
I would start with jetting first, looks lean to me but I dont know your elevation yet.

todays run
Sorry I made a typo the jetting is 146.3 146.3 148.8 Stock jetting for 98 srx. -26 C today went for a long run to the cabin,Changed helix before I left to stock 47 with Red at 80. Wot 8200 then drops to 79/8000. Almost seems as though im not Backshifting very well. When I am going across the lake I pin it 8200 rpm, If I slack off the throttle and pin it again im only reving 78/79 I took a few pics of the plugs. I am running at 1600ft Its a 98 mtn 700. I definately have a flat feeling when I slack off and pin it again.

ok, check the bottons in the secondary that ride against helix, might be worn down flat.
are u sure those power valve work correctly any broken wire pull thru

All power valves were taken out and repaired ones from Rich stahl put in. I noticed the buttond were worn down a little that might just be the problem. Ill replace the buttons and try a new silver spring at 70. I bet the shop doesn't have a silver down there so I say I'm gonna have to order one. Would a pink or white spring be too stiff?
