Any guidelines on when its really time to replace a track? My studs are worn, a few torn out, and some lugs are torn on my stock sx700r track. I don't really want to do the job but I did have trouble up really steep hills on wooded trails last year. I suppose I could restud as an alternative.

Let the overall condition of the track be your guide.Just make sure there are no tears near the track edges or huge cracks in it.A new modern track like a ripsaw, hacksaw or carve(predator) would be a nice upgrade though. Also check your trackclips if you have major issues here and major tears or stud pullouts near the edge its time for a track.

X2 - As Swede says, the stock track was pretty lame and any modern aftermarket track will make a big difference. Shoot, a like new ".920 Polaris take-off would be an upgrade.

Waiting too long with a track with pull-outs (especially on the outer edges) can be more costly than a new track and studs. Plus, damaged tracks have a habit of letting go 40 miles from the truck. And if you're like me, it'll be in the back of your mind everytime you hit the trail.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but based on your discription, if it were me I'd pull the trigger on a replacment.

OK, I went out and looked at my track. There are just too many lugs missing along the edges to trust it so I've ordered a 1" predator (carve) from cbperformanceparts and will stud it. Thanks for the advice.

Glad you posted sleddineinar, I was going to go 96 myself but after your post and reading several opinions elsewhere, it seems that 144 is the general consensus.

I went with 96 to see how it grabbed, it wasn't bad but I wasn't completely satisfied. I'm going to put 8" bars on the skis just not 100% sure on which ones, either shapers or woody's excutives, probably shapers.
