After all these years, I just bought my first sled! I live in the country (near trail) and have a cabin in northern WI (on trail). I'm a little confused by this model. The Yamaha site doesn't list it as a model when looking for a manual. I see everyone else talking about them and the cowel says SXR. So what is the difference between a SXR and a SRX? Most importantly is it possible to add electric start to this sled? The key has a momentary start position. Any other upgrades available? Any help is highly appreciated. I'm really new to sleds. I've rode them to the ice shack and back, but never trail rode yet. Can't wait for snow!

the SRX is power valved and has triple pipes. Also has shorter travel suspension then the SXR.The SRX is a Lake Racer basically, not good for deep snow..whereas the SXR will go in deeper snow.

SXR and SRX are to diferent machines.
SXR, Non powervalve motor, triple, single pipe, long travel suspention. Awesome sled and very reliable. I don't think they made them in 99. If the head is red, you most likely have an sx. You can add E start and Rverse no problem, some aftermarket pipes wont let you add the reverse.
SRX, powervalved motor, triple, triple factory pipes, short travel. Monster sled very fast. Perfect lake/river sled. Not sure about E start on this one
Hope this helps, there is a lot more info than this do a search and check it out...

sx-r is single piped stock and has no power valves. it does have 11.5" of rear travel and 9" in the front tho. also, you can add electric start and reverse if needed/wanted. the sx-r's are great, reliable sleds. those engines won't die if taken care off and jetted right for the engine mods done, if any that is. check the classifieds for the electric start and reverse. sometimes that stuff is for sale in there.

if your sled is a 99,it isn't a SXR.They didn't start to make them until 2000 and up.You may have a Vmax 700 SX.What does it say on the bill of sale for the year and model.Something is not right here.Is it a Red in color sled or Blue. Post us a pic if you can do.
I own a 2001 SX600R and that sled is bullet proof. With 12,000 km's on her, nothing has really broke except for the w-arm.That I have re-inforced a couple years back and all is still in good shape.I ride it hard and can't seem to blow up that motor(I have tried..believe me). With all the ditchbanging and high flying jumps that I take with it...it just won't break down..ever.The 700 has a few more HP,but same concept basically sled wise.

Thanks all for posting so soon. I bought from a friend so no bill of sale. All I'm going on is what I can see on the sled. Its blue and says SXR on the side and 700 triple. There is a label near the S/N tag that says mfgd 7/1999. I'm assume then its a 99. My friend is looking for the title yet. I'm glad to hear its a reliable sled. It has like 5500 miles on it. Whats the difference between powered and non-powered valves? The triple pipes probably have less backpressure and thus allow more hp? I can post a pic tomorrow if needed. Still need to see it?

If the label on the side says it was made in 99' then it will be a 2000 model. My 99 says it was made in 98'.

My 2000 SX700r is also manufactured in 1999 so that's what you have. There are several owners of these posting to this list and many knowledgable people who have helped guys like you and me. I added electric start to mine. The part number for the kit is 8DS-W8180-15-KT. I found mine on ebay by doing an advanced search within title and description. I think it is discontinued from Yamaha. Good luck and check out the tech pages here too, there are some nice tuning mods listed for your sled.
