What would be the advantages and disadvantages of putting 2002 viper walls on 1998 srx base? What mods Would have to be done? Would it be better with srx heads or viper head? Any one done this? I know using a viper base changes porting if used on an srx but I am confused help please!

i'm confussed, w/what you're trying to ask....

viper walls?? i'm assuming you mean "cylinders"?

srx base?? i'm assuming you mean "crankcase"?

regardless, the srx heads would be a better choice, between the viper head and srx heads. also, the viper cylinders will bolt right up to a '98 srx crankcase....nothing different w/the intake.

what build are you trying to do or what?

Yes the viper cylinders and yes the srx crank case lol . I am from Newfoundland so please dont mind my slang! I am trying to make a mod, with srx crankcase, viper crank bearings have been changed , and viper walls, and srx heads with srx triple pipes . I am making a trail mix water runner! I just want to know, is there a benefit to this mixing parts? I am new to this and I need guidance or a personal mechanic LOL

Well here's my answer

The cylinders will fit on the SRX base and there is nothing wrong with putting a viper crank in 00-02 SRX base (same base) but if you are using a 98-99 SRX base then you are going to have to relocate the mounting location for the pick up coil. Stock for stock the viper cylinders are slightly more aggressively ported than SRX so there is an advantage there. There would have been a further advantage with an SRX crank from a case stuffing perspective but you have changed that to viper so that is out the window. No, you cant bolt on the pipes....the SRX and viper cylinders are quite different in the exhaust area. You are going to have to make an adapter plate to use SRX manifolds & pipes on viper cylinders. Do a search for a guy on here "Concept Carbon" who did a beautifil job putting SRX pipes on his viper. You are in for a lot of work here and you havn't even gotten into what ignition system you will be using.

I can use the srx crank instead of the viper crank, I have both, thanks. All I wanted to know is if the viper cylinders were more agressive in porting Ill definately have my hands full this winter! I will be using the srx ignition system, I have a 2000 mxz chasis that I am doing for water only! thanks for the info every one!

This sounds like a very adventurous project and not, might I add,one for the mechanically weak,no offense.Personally I think it would be easier to use either all Viper or all SRX parts and have the cylinders ported to the kind of power your looking for.As well you may consider a big bore kit for this may be easier gains if your looking for the biggest bang for your buck. But it's all according to how much time and $ you want to put into this project, there is only so much you can do with a 2 stroke engine but gains can be made some easier than others. What ever you decide it sounds like an interesting work project,I hope you know a good mechanic and a machinist to help build stuff as this kind of knowledge can be great to have in the back pocket.

REALLY... I am just building this out of what I have on hand. I know it will go to the bottom of some lake so I dont want to spend too much... I have access to all machining and welding and endless amounts of materials Over 400 qualified personel that have nothing better to do than fiddle faddle with things while we "Work". We have all the time in the world I Dont retire for another 24 years!!
