cheap oil ~vs~ yamalube oil

Does running walmarts cheap oil make a difference from yamalube oil? We have 9 sleds an run them all hard so we spend a lot in oil otherwise i wouldnt care much....thanks guys
 
yea!!!

This gets beat like a red headed stepchild every season try a search and read for hours, ONLY synthetic in my stuff!!!

wal-mart's cheap *ss stuff is TCw3,you dont want that crap in a sled or chainsaw,anything that varies rpms and runs hotter then a slow turning cool running boat motor. try a search. ;)!
 
I have always went with Yamalube on my Yamaha's. If it was an old Artic Cat I would not care as much. I just like to stick with what the manufacture recommends. The grease that I just pumped into the zerks last night were a Yamaha all weather product. I'm wanting the sled to last a real long time for me. I guess if I had a whole bunch of older sleds a regular store brand would be fine. But if I had 9 new Yamaha sleds they would all have the good stuff in them. Just my opinion...
 
Only Yamalube in my MtnMax but I am going to try AMSOIL in the SX that I am building. I know a guy that runs wal-mart oil in his polaris and love it. I wouldnever use it. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for.
 
my 2 cents says that neither Yamaha nor Wal-Mart manufacture there own product.
We all know Wal-Mart buys on price but still demends minimum standards, Yamaha buys less on price and probably has a higher minimum standard.
Here is the question to you though, For the sake of $2.00 or $3.00 are you willing too risk a few hundred $$ on a motor re-build? or at least you will have to shorten your maintenance cycle when using the "cheap stuff".
Myself I buy high end conventional oil because my sled is 10 years old but I still have a stringent maintenance schedule, If my sled was less than 6 years old it would be high quality synthetic all the way. the choice is yours on wether or not too spend the money on repairs or gas for driving.
 
Amsoil is the only thing I will run in my Yamaha sleds. Especially the 2strokes.

Had the Cat out for a spin today across the lawn.We are getting snow next Thurs and Friday.Can't wait for it. :letitsnow

Nothing wrong with yamalube Doug,it works fine,i just prefer a full synthetic better made oil.
 
I've been running Fowler, and since I ran out of that Citgo Sean and Snow - seems to be fine. Fowler was $18 gal, now it's $25, and citgo sea and snow is $16 gal. I also know a guy that ran walmart oil in his red head 700 for a season and he's got close to 15,000 miles on it untouched.
 
Another advantage using full synthetic is that it leaves a coating on all moving parts in the engine. Extra protection for crank bearings over the summer.
 
My SRX fouled plugs constantly running Yamalube, switched to Amsoil Interceptor and the problem has completely disappeared. The money I save on plugs more than makes up for any difference in cost, never mind the grief and embarrassment of having the hood up changing yet another plug!

Yamalube works fine in my fan cooled sleds, but the SRX just doesn't like it and I figure if it made that big a difference there, it's gonna be Amsoil across the board! I won't go back. G.
 
One of the guys in our group runs the Castrol stuff in his 94 Vmax 600. You know, the Yamaha sled that should have the "fill oil, check the gas" sticker. He buys it by the case for that sled. Not sure what he's using in his RX1. I used Yamalube for the longest time and switched to Amsoil the last 3ish seasons before the MTX.
 
I have a couple of Polaris buddies and an Arctic Cat buddy that only use Yamalube, They swear by it. I've used Yamaha lube in previous seasons, but am going to try Amsoil this year in my sx700. I run Amsoil Chaincase oil, and use Yamalube all weather grease.
 
I ran synthetic in my sled for the past 2 seasons and when I rebuilt the engine over the summer I notice some very faint traces of rust on my crank bearings. The shop that installed the new bearings said that this was due to using synthetic oil. He said it actually doesn't stick to the engine parts which lets moisture get at the crank and bearings over the summer, rusting them. I'm not sure how accurate this is but I'm going to stick with just plain old yamalube or some other conventional oil. Anyone else here anything like this?
 
Think im gunna try (Shell advanced Ultra High performance Full synthetic)...
Its ranked ISO EGD ...so its right up there with the best, Its Cheaper and more readyly available that amsoil ...

What - Nosboy hasn't chimed in on this one yet and set everyone straight on 2-cycle oil?!?!?! Is he ok? Did something happen to him or is he just tired of answering oil questions - just kidding - I couldn't resist.

Klotz oil - I have close to 10,000 miles on my sled with only (1) fowled plug in that time and I have never had to touch the engine for any reason.

No offense to anybody who hasn't seen these threads disintigrate in the past..... it just flat out can get ugly. Therefore I won't make my shameless pitch for Amzoil.

But in terms of causing men to fight like school girls, this topic is tied for the worst with the great ethanol fuel debate......... it's like talking about politics with your wife --- gets you nowhere except pissed off and nobody will change anybody's mind.

i run amsoil in my sled. you can actually buy the oil in bulk from their website and save a little bit of money for instance a quart of dominator is $9.30 and a gallon is $36.65 so you save $0.55. but if you buy it in a 16 gallon keg its $535.60 saving you $50.80 than buying buy the individual gallon. they also offer a 30 gallon drum for $922.50 saving you $177 than buying buy the individual gallon. now i doubt anyone is gonna buy the 55 gallon drum but it runs for $1603.35 saving you $412.20 over individual gallons.

this is the only oil im going to run in my sled, interceptor or dominator. the interceptor has very simular savings, but for a couple of bucks more why not get dominator. there is a real savings when you buy the 55 gallon drum of oil, its just wise maybe if you get a couple of riding buddies to throw down with you. there are about 8 to 10 people in my group always buying oil, i just makes sense for us to buy 55 gallons and forget about buying oil for several years cause the price is only going to go one way and that is up.
