Question on center rear shock??

I am buying a new shock/spring for the rear of the Mtn Lite soon, and I was looking in Royal Distributing and the Kimpex Shock (not buying a kimpex shock, there garbage) part number isn't even there for my sled, only a 00' Mtn Lite, and the 99-01 Phazers, Venture, V-Max, etc. I am wondering if the shock on those sleds will work on my sled? And will a stock rebuild-able Viper shock fit/work on my sled? What is the pricing on one of those in CAN dollars? Thanks guys :letitsnow
 
thanks crewchief, I might try and get a pic up soon, its the stock 136" Pro-Action rear suspension with 11.5" of travel, it has a Kimpex Gold shock on there now that the previous owner installed, I would only put a Kimpex Gold on my Bravo
 
There's a good chance that Viper shocks would fit that skid or any shocks from a Pro-action rear. Meaning you may find something in the classifieds. I put Viper shocks on my 136" Venture project in my signature, "history of the Vmax Rage 600". There are lots of skid pictures in that thread if it helps.
 
Same shock and spring was used in '01 that was used in '00.

The rear shock and spring used on the 121" PZ500 is very similar. The center shock spring is quite a bit stiffer on the shorty.

While other shocks and springs will fit, here are the specs of the '01 Mtn Lite so you can see any differences . . .

both shocks are Steel Body with a gas cell

Center Shock / Spring
  • Spring Rate 1.5 kg/mm
  • Installed Length 200 mm
  • Stock Cam Position 1
Rear Shock / Spring
  • Spring Rate 2.3 - 4.3 kg/mm
  • Installed Length 354 mm
  • Stock Cam Position 4
I have run Viper shocks on many other ProAction skids.
 
hey guys I meant the rear shock, the one with the big coil-over spring, not the one in the front of the rear suspension. So I dunno If I got anybody mixed up? :letitsnow
 
So Ding, do you think this application would benefit from the Viper shocks???

On a more serious line of thought, are you saying the Viper stuff might be too much valving for the Phazer? Due to the lack of heat exchanger weight? Maybe some SXR take-offs would be better?

I think that situation might benefit from a salad now and then. We were basically fully compressed in that pic. "Like a Rock . . ."

If I used Viper shocks, I would simply have them revalved, the springs are not that different and actually have more range.

That said Steel Body shocks last a long time on a Phazer.

For a real plush ride, find some Works off a Pro-Action.
 
well guys I went to my yamaha dealership on friday and the price for the steel-body gas cell shock is $369 CAN, and I'm not getting a Kimpex Shock. The rear shock in my sled is the stock one, not a Kimpex Gold shock. My sled has only been used hard this past winter, as the last owner of it was a women who probably never had the ski's off the ground LOL, I bought it with around 9900 kms and it was MINT. I might just stiffen up the springs and use it like that for another couple years. :letitsnow
