I have the skid out of my 2000 SX700r and thought I would go through it after reading how they are prone to broken "W" arms and how the bushings are usually loose. The only thing I can find on mine is that the upper and lower front shock ends have lots of play in them once I loosen up my straps. I don't see anything else with 2300 miles on the sled. Am I missing something or are they not that bad? I don't see undercut welds and all bushings seem tight.

You must be a lucky one. Every rear skid I've pulled out to re-work, regardless of miles, has had slop in them. But that's my opinion.

I replaced the bushings in the shocks with roller bushings on both my sleds and both shocks. No more slop or play in there now.I re-inforced my w-arm and has been good from last season.Besides the odd bolt snapping once in a while in the skid, mine are all holding up,and I do some violent jumps with my SXR.I also have added a few grease fittings in various place so I can keep things lubed.Wish Yamaha would have done that, but how else are they going to make money... charging like $6.00 for a plastic bushing as example.

i am doing one rite now with 1800 miles the shock bushings are trashed ..and the lower w arm bushings on the skid ....but the tops are good ...if i was you i would replace the shock bushings with the bearings and oil seals and plastic washers ....and add the grease zerts in the critical spots ..

OK, I did a lot of reading on the forum this morning and now I'm convinced that even though my W arm seems O.K., it would be wise to address it before the season and while it's out. For starters, I made up some sintered bronze bushings this morning for the front shock top and bottom. Tonight I'm going to disassemble the rest of the skid and formulate a plan. I ordered some Delrin round stock that should be here tomorrow for the other bushings and I plan to reinforce the W arm. This forum is great, I never would have known any of this.
