Are the 8dn-20's about the best weights for my piped/trail ported/max perf. heads viper for aggressive trail? Is it worth it going to heel clickers or heavy hitters or are you trying to tune everytime the trails/temp changes? what other weights are there that can perforum well? This viper is all new to me and still learning, just bought it last month and trying to get my clutching together for winter thanks
 
you don't have to retune the hc's or hh's any more than any other weight, it's just quicker to do if youre the type to always be playing with you're clutches (i can relate to that) if your just trail riding one of the many setups in the tech section with yamaha weights will serve you well, if you're going to be drag racing or radar running and wanting to try different setups thats where the adjustable weights are nice but either will work for trail or race
 
yep tony, 8AB's and 8CA's work well in a viper. i got real close last year on a 8CA setup in my ported/piped viper. i'm going to get it dialed in for this year......just ran out of snow last year and time. i ran it w/like 2.4g each hole. i was getting around mid 8000's for rpms, if i remember right. i was using my custom cut 50-45-40 helix, w/green spring @ like 60-70. pulls like hell.

heavy hitters and heel clickers, usually don't need constant tuning. if you loaded it heavily and dial it in perfect on a hard pack cold day, don't be surprised tho if rpms are down like 100-200 or so on a warmer slushy day. they are quick and easy to adjust, w/just a simple hardware change.

but does the 8ca weight have as good a top end as the 8dn or 8ek? i've used the 8ca in the past for grass draggin only. how bout the 8bu-10. i'm going to give it a try this year in the snow.
 
I DID A CLUTCH SET-UP FOR MY NEIGHBOR THIS PAST SUMMER WITH A 700 SX RED HEAD TRIPLE WITH BENDER TRIPLES. SLED RAN 10.15 @ 123 IN 1/4 WITH 8CA. NOW I DO AGREE POSSIBLEY 8BU-10 WOULD PULL HARDER ON TOP, BUT 8CA PULLED HARD IN THE 1/4. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
My buddy had a piped viper and he said he tried 8ca's at some local radar runs and said they didnt work for shit and you loss topend?
 
yeah i was guessing there wasnt much tunning time on his viper with the 8ca's. do they work better than the 8bn-20's? or should say how do they compare
 
With any weight with that profile like the 8ab/8ca/8bu you will need a dual angle helix with an approxiamate 8-10 degree spread. Put the majority of weight in the tip & run a stiffer secondary spring.
 
smaller rollers = more shift force, lower shift rpms
larger rollers = less shift force, higher shift rpms

i would personally leave the rollers alone, but if you're die hard set on changing them, then i wouldn't go any bigger than 15mm.
 
just picked up a set of 8nd-20's for a good price, can anyone set me up with how much rivet weight i need in the inner and outer holes to get me close for 8900rpms on my piped viper? should i leave the stock rollers?
