All,
I have a 96 600 vmax (was a 500) with a comet 108exp which needs rebuilt. Looking at Comet's website I am quickly lost as far as part numbers go and Yamaha setups on the tech pages. Has anyone found a good setup for a stock 600 with the comet? If you want to throw some part numbers at me as well that would be even better.

whats in there now? seems like a-2 arms and the red spring worked descent, but its been awhile.
Give comet or any one that sells them a call. They have a reference chart. I purchased a 108 through spanky's powersports inc. for a 94 mach1, rpms were spot on...

So I emailed Comet directly and they said they "don't have the expertise to recommend a clutch set up". Based on their website they recommend AC1 cams and a silver spring (below). I also called spank's (very nice people) and Jerry from parts said the 600 should have a purple spring (which is what is in the sled now). Not sure where to go from here... trust comets website?

Digging around comets website some more they show engagement rpm's at 3200 for the silver spring which seems way off. From the tech pages a 96 600 xt clutch engagement of around 4k seems ideal.
Spanky's set me up with a purple (136 LBS) , AC cam arm (57.3gm) and rpm's were right on (7,800), but that was for a 670cc HO engine...(94-mach1).... I'd use Spanky's set-up, they are good to deal with and may exchange the weights out if not correct. Good luck....... Back in 2003 the cams cost 11.61 apiece and springs were 11.53 so they were cheep to tune if necessary....
