Hey guys went through most of the posts trying to find stuff on the 99 but not so much luck mostly all about 2000 2001 and 2002 and the 98 with the crank issue...
well after being through a summer with no sled and winter coming up... I cant fight the itch.... I need another sled.
I was trying to look for something abit different then a srx... but I came across a nice looking srx...
I found a 99 srx 700 with 4300 km's all stock... for $2850 Canadian... Most srx's around here around going for 3000$ but with over 7000km's at the least. some with even 10,000... those however are usual the year 2000-2001 srx's
So I was just wondering anything I should whatch for in the 99's?
I know the basics like checking power valves, cables... primary clutch... W arm ...going to check compression... but anything weak about them that I wouldnt know?
Should I even bother? I might be able to get my hands on a 2002 mxz 700 with 5300 km's for 3500 on the dot fully serviced if its not already sold... but if it is... I wouldnt mind thinking about the srx...
The guy owning the 99 srx doesnt know much about them from when I was asking questions...but also said he doesnt take it out much and has a buddy thats a mech that checks it out now and then... and he has owned it since 2001 bought it from a dealer ship that used it as a "show model"

I put 2500 trouble free miles on my 99 SRX 7 and loved every mile of it. It was hard on spark plugs untill I learned how to warm it up but otherwise awesome out of the box performance, gas/oil mileage and zero problems in 2 seasons...

Unless you need every last HP and cant live without the dual headlight, I say snag the 99 SRX and know you can put another 10,000kms with no issues. And save the extra $$$ for a ripsaw or C&A skis or something
Then laugh when you hear of that mxz blowing up on the 2nd ride of the season!! lol
In all seriousness, its up to you and what youur gut tells ya, but id take either SRX before the mxz any day

Good point... I though there was something else better about the 01 other than hp... and being newer.... so more or less if that 99 checks out good through a tune up ill be happy... im not going to die loosing abit of hp.. im not out to win as much hp as i can get...
i just want to go FAST!!!!!
and srx's have that nice triple sound... dont think it would be the same with a twin

cant beat the srx grumble...no twin will ever sound like the srx..My 99 is dialed in pretty good right now. Ripsaw grabs like mad, C&As carve like crazy....I need to get the clutch setup tuned this year, but I mean, its still a neck snapper...

Hey R.R.L, GT500LC from HCS here I hope you don't have the same faith as your other SRX but hopefully it turns out well for ya. I seen a 2000 SRX 700 on Manitoba Kijiji they were asking $2000 for one in great shape.

Manitoba is one heck of a long way from me! lol...
I am somewhat from Ottawa..... 1 hour East of it... ive been looking in quebec toronto montreal sudbury and a few other places for sleds... not necercerly for a srx... but havent seen any in my price range with km's
haha yea i know im asking for advice on a yamaha site thats why i was on HCS for abit asking for info.... but for fine tuning and detail info on srx's this is the place to go..

I have had my 99 for 6 years now, Never had any issues, ahve almost 10000 miles on it, And I will never sell it. Always do the maint, and it will treat you well for a long time.

Guys i just saw this... for 500$ more I can get it ant its 3 hours closer... and its just been "tuned" am I looking for trouble going into a ported and polished sled?!

For the most part i would stay away from a modded sled. But bender knows what they are doing so maybe it could be a great sled. Just something in the back of my mind says buy a stock one.

yea i def would rather a stocker but from what ive been seeing on his posts and so on he knows what to do and how to maintain a srx properly.... but yea was talking to him... he won a contest on here to send out his heads to Don Pizor to get ported and polished with a complete clutch kit and the right jetting for the whole set up.... along with some new stuff on the sled like reeds and so on.... so I know for sure its tuned properly unlike most other srx's where its a guessing game...,
