Hello boys,

do I ever have a story for ya's.

Last week Sunday I was in Slidell Louisianna at a friends place watching NFL Sunday on his big screen. He bought the NFL season ticket so I enjoy going to his place on Sundays to watch all the games.

During the Denver and New England game, my friends 6 year old kid come running in the house saying that there is a little girl on the hood of my car playing toys on the hood. Eventful and interesting as the game was, I thought I would get off my seat go outside to check it out. When I approached my Z, I look down the street about 100 feet and see a mother spanking the behind of this little 4 year old girl at the same time I was looking down at the hood of my Z and immediately noticed several deep scratches in a swirl about the size of the front wheel on the passenger side.

Without skipping a beat, I aksed my friends kid if that was the girl on top of my car and he replied yes, she was. Without hesitation, I walked calmly over to the house that this little girl lives with her parents. I was greeted in the driveway by the girl's mother. I told who who I was and that I was the owner of the blue corvette parked down the street staed to her that her daughter has done some damages to my car. She followed me over to the car with her daughter to look at the damages done to the paint on the hood. The husband didnt take too long to catch on and came over to where we were by my Z only moments later. I calmly explained to the mother that nobody is in trouble or anything like that but I am going to call the police and get a police report to turn into my insurance company. After her husband assessed the damages to the paint on the hood, I was not surprised when he insisted on "paying for a buff job" but I told him no I am going to have it painted through my insurance company and that I want him to pay my $500 comprehensive deductable. I could tell he was not happy especially shortly after I called the police and the officer arrived on scene, he explained to the parents that it was my right to chose my repair option and that they are responsible for their 4 year old's actions and supervision.

After the police report was filed, I had the father escort me to his house where we sat in the garage and signed a wriiten agreemnet that he will pay $500 deductable for damages done to my car. It turns out that that little girl was playing with a toy camera on the hood of my car by moving in in a circular motion. I watched her mother throw it in the trash can as I heard her mumble with anger that " I dont want to see this thing ever again"

The agreement between the father and I was in writing so I went back to my friends house to enjoy the rest of the football game.

About 12 hours later, after contacting my insurance company that evening, I was greeted with a phone call from an insurance adjuster who drove 2 hours to my place for an estimate. We went over everything very carefully and I pointed out that I will need a new hood sticker for when they have to paint the car and I want the entire front end repainted, fenders front facia and all. He didnt seem to have a problem with anything I wanted. I explained to him what had happened and told him about the agreement me and the father of that girl have. My adjuster smiled and stated that it is very nice of them to pay your deductable however, that girls dad will be getting a bill in the mail for the ENTIRE CLAIM!!!! I was shocked at first and knew I wasnt going to tell the father that on the telephone when I gave him the address and telephone # of the paint and body shop I took my Z to.

As of right now, the shop is still waing on the hood stickers to come in by the way which were about $450 just for the hood stickers. They have it all stripped down and ready to paint with the exception of them waiting on a few things like that. The shop is even going to replace my COMM ED. C5 logo on the facia.

The father of that little girl as of today has not stepped in that shop to pay my deducatble but you can rest assured that if I have to go in and pay the deducatbale myself, I am going to file a civil case and I am going to tack on the car rental expense and court fees plus the $500 deducatbe. If he does not want o cooperate by the time my car is ready, he will easily turn $500 into atleast $1000.

My Z is scheduled to be done this wednesday. I will keep yous's updated.

Being in the repair buisiness myself, to be able to get your car back you had better pay the deductable and then try to get reimbursed from the other party. If you plan on having the other party pay it directly to the repair shop it might be a long time. Your post did not show scratches, but owning a Corvette myself i know how you can get attatched to such a vehicle. But it is still a car and in the eyes of the a judge, the only item which may really needed any repair was the hood. this is the item which they are only resposible for. The other party's homeowners insurance shoul pick up the tab. The problem with insurance company's is you pay out he nose for premium's and they try to repay back with the bare minumum. Not only auto insurance but all insurance what a racket. I hope you get your car back soon, winter is almost amoung us and time to put away and get out the sleds. Allan

If you paint one part of a vehicle, it is difficult to get the paint to match perfectly with the surrounding areas and my insurance company, USAA has authorized the shop to do that.

I am not going after this guy to pay for the entire thing, just my deductable however, if my insurance company choses to send them a bill for the whole thing, that is between them and my insuance.

Car painting is near impossible to get the same finish and look as the rest of the car, that is why they do blending and ussually when there is a large area to do like a hood, the whole front end gets done. There are so many little things that affects the final result in the paint, temperature, gun speed, air pressure, room humidity, this is why so much needs to be resprayed. If it was a chevdette, then ok, spray the hood and door, but with a good car, go further for the little extra cost, remember, the extra cost to do the whole front is minimal, they still need to supply the same amount of paint, the time and preparation is close to the same, its like getting out of bed in the morning, ya gotta poop right, might as well pee too.

You should have told your insurance company it happened in a parking lot - but - people need to be held responsible for their kids actions, too.

It's been my experience to avoid repaint at all costs. You'll NEVER get the same finish (good or bad) as the factory. Of course the bump shop will tell you different, and refinish/paint match has come a long way, but they're in the business of painting cars not buffing/polishing.

Even if you paint the front end (facia, hood, fenders) you still have to match to the doors hanging next to the fenders.

A toy camera would suggest it was made of plastic and I wouldn't expect plastic to produce deep enough scratches to warrant refinishing but these are assumptions. If it was buffable, it would have been in his and your best interests.

It's stripped and ready for paint so all this is moot, but I have to wonder if refinish was necassary and you are the owner so it's your call.

Good luck.

Tom, where do you ride? I see you are from Mississippi. Never heard of any trails in your area. What color is your Vette? Mine is Torch Red. Hoping to go on one more drive yet this fall. We put just over 5k on it this summer. Quite a few road trips. Al

I am in the Navy and have been for the last 12 + years. I am 30 years old and have less then 8 years left till I retire.

I am from Saint Ignace Michigan. It is the first town you come to in the U.P. after you cross the mackinaw bridge going north on I-75. I grew up there and lived there till I was 18 years old and joined the navy.

My uncle has my sleds in my enclosed trailer at his place in St. Ignace. I go on leave every January to Febuary for 3-4 weeks. I will be up there in 2010 from Jan. 14th to Feb 5th. I just bought me a round trip plane ticket from new orleans to pellston MI. Family picking me up at air port. I enjoy riding all over the U.P. when I come home. It really something to look forward to every year.

As far as my vette. I have a very special Edition. It was the last and best of the C-5's made. I have a 2004 ZO6 commemorative edition. The lemans blue with white stripes down the middle. They only made 2025 of these cars. I have # 1450

I have it registered on www.Z16.org and you have to own one of these cars to be a member of that site. If you want to register your Z16 on that site if you own one, just type in the last 8 of your VIN when you register. You can see what my car looks like if you go to the site. I own the EXACT same car just different VIN ofcourse.

Mine is an 81 C3 I just decided this year to buy a car, and a Vette fit the bill. First "car" i have owned since 1984, the only other car i ever owned was a 72 Chevelle. All my other vehicles are trucks, or SUV's. My son has been talking about joining the Navy, he isn't sure of what to do though. Al

I stopped in the national corvette museum in bowling green kentucky this past summer and did a full tour of the place. That place is amazing with all the history in there and beautiful vettes from the past.

The only 1983 in the world exists and is is bowling green in the museum. Thats when GM was planning the new C4 body style but ended up scrapping the C4 project for that year and crushed all the cars. Im not sure why they did it. I heard design flaws possibly and it just wasn't ready for market to their standards

My next vette is going to be a 06-07 ZO6 with the 427 cubic inch 505 HP LS7 motor

Hopefully I can find a blue one but will settle for black if the price is right.

Im not a southerner. Im from st. Ignace and grew up there 18 years. People down here know Im a yankee when I talk.

Be nice to be home again doing what I enjoy the most, riding and more riding.

I just got my Z back today and I am very very happy with everything and looks much better then ever.
