the clutches in my srx did nothing for me...i ran consistant 7.2 times when i should be in the mid to low 6 range, at the end of the race i would see smoke rolling off the clutches...secondary to loose? who knows...got to get that thing clutched right

prmary was hot, i never had the slipping before today, then 40 feet down it felt like i had nothing but a belt smoking

these guys are going to need more info to help you out. On your other post you didn't give enough information as to what parts you have to work with and what is in the sled now

I would think to do well or consestant on grass the best techy would win.

Check your belt, moter mounts, jackshaft bearing.Take your clutches apart and clean look for sticking spots when you slide the sheaves back and forth.Check pins and bushings for wear or sticking.Check secondary buttons. Are srprings getting tired, are the priamary shieves starting to show signs of wear. There is alot you can check for or to make it like new it has to be new to be fast.

What distance are you running? for 500 feet you should be in the high 5's

What kind of set-up do you have in your clutches?

i honestly dont know what i have for clutching, i picked up the sled last year and did a ton of work to it, i had the sled serviced, powervalves, carbs, secondary, primary had heat cracks so i didnt have it serviced(looking for new primary) Sled never missed all day but it only revved 7800rpms. Im taking the secondary off tomorrow and will post pics.

Stock clutching & gearing is gonna be a recipe for disaster on grass. You still should be pulling more then 7800 rpm; even with stock clutching. You have either powervalves issues or something is wacked in your clutching. can,t fix that on the internet. You need somebody mechanically inclined on yammie sleds to take a look at it.

there is alot of set-up to do to a SRX to make it go quick for 500 feet.

The main ingredients are clutching and gearing change

You cant roll up to a 500 foot race with stock clutching and gearing or not knowing what you have in your sled. Maybe for a 1/4 race but not 500 feet.

Im not looking to break records, im saying that there was no pull after 50 feet, my friends mach 1 stock beat me by half a second...i know that isnt right

where you at in southern maine? i'm in sabattus, i could possibly look at it and tell you what you've got, i'm a radar run guy myself so i wouldn't be much help for you with a 500ft setup but at least you'd have the info needed for these guys to help you out

Being competitive on Sunday is all about the work, preparation, + $$ spent Monday thru Friday!!! A slow sled is never a quick fix as there are usually many contributing factors. When you are racing regularly you have to be a moving target...faster or at least dialed in for every track or weather situation every week. I would suggest that you base line everything to like new condition, parts as well as adjustments. You have to have a starting point to go forward. A high mileage daily rider will never be competitive to a sled/rider that is constantly reconditioning, regearing, reclutching, rejetting ect ect.

Do a search

A while back Allen Ulmer posted a baseline set-up for grass dragging an SRX. There was so much information in the post it was rediculous.....clutching, jetting, gearing, suspensios set up.....just everything. If you can find the post it will help you a lot.

i tore the secondary off today and discovered that the spring was junk, i could compress it with my hand with ease. the secondary seemed to be opening to far to quick robbing me of lots of power, Im gonna replace the spring and try it out. Any ideas on a spring for it? i was thinking stock but i am curious as to which spring is the next step up in stiffness? anyone know?
