Is EGT sensor waste of $ if you have DCS?

I have a 04 Viper with DCS and modded with perf head, benders, clutched. Would it be a good idea to have EGT triple sensors or is there no point in it since the sled has DCS?

Is always a good extra reference, for peace of mind.... They can tell you more then just running hot......

i think they would be worth the money, you could be running cooler temps with bad fuel and have the dcs kick in, plus i believe there a good tool for tuning just my thoughts

All depends on where you put them,, I've read around 1200 deg. F...for srx.. 2 to 3" from cylinder ...

EGT sensors are a great tool, but they get really annoying when trail riding. I keep staring at mine, and it drives me crazy after a while. It's best to just turn them off, although I never do. They make you paranoid!

So how hot is too hot for EGT's?

EGT reading is relative to probe placement, and can vary quite a bit. You need to do alot of testing and plug chops to see where yours should be running. The temperature numbers are just a reference.

Definitely not a waste of $$, burnt down a Viper due to bad fuel. Well my dad did, says DCS didnt come on till right at the end. EGT, if being watched, may have prevented this.

What temp gauges do you guys recommend? I have been looking around for a digital system that has the ability to record max temps and also have a programable alarm or warning light built in.

Small price to pay for 180++hp trail rocket!

I run a Racepak Avenger III on my trail sled, and a four window Digatron on my race sled. They both work fine. The racepak is nice because it is wide and thin, the Digatron is a bit more clunky, but has more features.

If your dcs does not go off with those mods, it isn't working.

When I was much younger I ran EGT's and also ran right on the edge. You know had to have as much power as possible. The problem I see with EGT's is you really watch the gauge and if you are running a little cool, well I just had to rejet. next thing you know long run at night and then you are running hot and burn down. I never thought of running 200 to 250 miles a day back then, now I run jetting stock, pipe stock. Only Turks clutching recommendations. No reason to install EGT's on a trail sled. the trails are not race tracks. I learned my lessons with many dollars spent and not many miles ridden. Al

Agreed, the only reason I have a Digitron on mine is the pipes already have the bungs, I've swapped it from past sleds and it looks cool.

Well, and I still use the recording capabilities of the tach signal for clutch tuning. Yeah, that's it.

I've also noticed changes in EGT after refueling which would suggest differences in fuel quailty.
