Viper Crank/Bearings

I have an 04 Viper ER. Pulled the motor to inspect and found the run out was out of spec. Split the cases and found the inner bearing on the pto side is shoot. Now for the question, the two outer pins are welded. Is this factory, warranty or just done after the fact. Motor is stock, I don't know if it had pipes at one time. Also is there anyone one here that can run a vin# to check the history.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Anyone on here had a Viper crank repair done in the Toronto area. Not sure where to send it because it's welded.

be careful with them. they scrapped my brothers viper crank and did not return all the parts when we asked for it back. just happens that all the good parts are what is missing. not too happy with them atm.
 
Viper crank Bearing

I have a question about the inside bearing on the pto side against the lobe. At first inspection I assumed this bearing was shot due to the side play. After further inspection I think this is a needle type bearing and the side to side movement is normal, this would be the same as the two end bearings. Can someone with crank knowledge please confirm this.

thats right. the only two bearings that shouldn't have side play are the ones on either side of the brass gear,they are ball bearings the rest are roller bearings,if the bearings are smooth and don't have any up and down play they should be fine.

This fooled me the first time I had look at those bearings as well until I checked out the parts micro fiche and found they were indeed tapered roller bearings in that location...not the large ball bearings as on most other sleds.

you need to slowly roll the bearing w/your finger, while your finger stays on the outside bearing race, feeling for vibrations/grumbliness......understand. you spin the bearings fast too, listening for dryness/grumbliness. the side to side play is ok, as already stated in the previous 2 posts. when the case halfs come together, the bearing can't wobble side to side like that.
