Easy carb clean question

Hi,

I was cleaning the carbs in the Grage today... and when you take out the fuel screw it comes out with a spring and little washer...

well the middle carb... came out with a spring washer then oring....

Do all the carbs usualy have a O-ring at the tip? or is it just a random O-ring the previous owner put on?

From my guide:

23) Remove the fuel screw BUT only after counting the number of turns it takes to bottom the screw (tighten, but only lightly). It should be between 1.5 to 2 turns from bottomed. DO NOT USE ANY FORCE. You will know when it’s bottomed. Make sure you remove the spring, washer and o-ring before you blow out the carb, unless you want to look for a needle in a haystack, followed by a trip to the dealer to order small replacement carb parts.
 
Yup that would be it lol....

Weird... I had mrvipers carb cleaning steps out... where did you get that one from the faqs?

Well atleast I just lost a o ring...(if its not still in there)

Uhm for the fuel screw... the info you gave me says 1.5-2 turns out.. but the other one says 1.25 which is better?

been there, done that.

The first time I cleaned my carbs, I failed to notice the o-ring on oen of the carbs. I noticed it when it flew out when I blew air through it though, (then made a trip to the dealer so he could order me a new one).

usually the orings stay in place, and you have to pick them out.
 
The main purpose of this o-ring is to keep the spring and washer in place when the screw is removed. There is a small possibility that it helps seal to some degree, but the brass threads of the screw should do that very well. There are many Mikuni, Tillotson, Keihin, Walbro, Nikko, etc. carbs running today that do not have these o-rings in place. The spring will not have as much tension on it without the o-ring, but it should still provide the same function.
 
Yea I figured it was mostly to seal and keep the washer on there.... ill prob repalce it just to be on the safe side though.... had bad luck with my 00 srx... not going to take any shortcuts on this one...

Even if it consists of a missing oring that may not be entirely needed...lol...

also... i would think with that extra tention... wouldnt it further prevent having the fuel screw screw in or out....
 
I would say replace it if you can, but don't let it keep you from riding. It really isn't intended to seal, just keep the spring on. It doesn't do a very good job of keeping the spring on as you well know.
 
Yea....know what you mean....

Im def not holding back from riding.... I still need to do a few things...

Still need PV calbes (2 are freyed badly).... I got 2 pulled through valves which i dont know if i can re use just yet... (cleaning them) they seem abit rough on the bottom side. but can be just the oil build up...
 
If they ride very long in the pulled through state, they wear badly on the bottoms. Then they are very prone to sticking, and have no coating left in that area.
