First I would like to introduce myself as new member. My name is Jay. I am from Mass and we have a house on Sebago Lake in Maine and other family have house in the White Mtns.
We had many sleds as a kid and then got out of it, I have been wanting to get back into it for the last few years but this year I have gotten more serious about it.
I was referred to this site my a member here that I met on another forum and have to say in the last 2 days of reading I have learned so much, but I have a few questions
What is a "power valve motor"?
what is the difference between a Viper and SRX? Both are triples but it looks like the SRX steps it up with triple pipes.
I would be doing most riding on groomed trails in NH and Maine and we have a house on Sebago Lake in Maine so I want something fast, Thats why I was leaning toward the SRX but being 42 if we venture out to the trails I dont wnt to get beat up and be totally sore at the end of the day.
Can a Viper or SXR with some mods keep with an SRX? Honestly, there will be and ego thing going between my cousins and I.
Any help about these topics would be appreciated
Thanks
Jay

srx out of the box makes more power than the viper, it also a more torky engine because of the crank differences, i think a piped and jetted viper will make as much or more power than the srx, the viper will all around ride better, if you have your choice and some extra $ for a few mods (pipes, jetting, clutching) i'd get a viper (that's coming from a 3 time srx owner) but both are great. there was a viper s (ohlins shocks) for sale in uncle henrys last week in maine. nice sled

oh and the power valve
powervalves are yamahas variable exhaust valves, they close off the ehaust port some at lower rpms for more torque and throttle response and open at higher rpms for more horsepower on top

Not sure if the piped SXR could keep up/beat a SRX. I think a SLP piped Viper could hold it own against the SRX. But either way the extra suspension would be worth it to me.

As a viper owner, I agree the srx out of the box is a quicker sled but the viper holds it own very well. On the trails the viper is a better riding sled and seems to be a little quicker because of its ride. I have moded mine and she is much quicker than a stock srx... They are both good sleds. Vipers are good looking sleds and have good power. My opinion...
Just be aware that the newer skids (2006 and newer) are night and day better than an SRX or a Viper. For pure groomed trail riding, the newer 4-strokes are hard to beat. An Apex or an Attak are quite fast. If you go with a Viper or SRX, you will likely be wanting to upgrade the rear skid after a few rides on bumpy trails.
I wish I could afford something newer- thats why i am looking at the SRX, Viper line, Shoot, If I had my choice it would be a Ski Doo 800RDing said:Just be aware that the newer skids (2006 and newer) are night and day better than an SRX or a Viper. a new skid for your srx/viper is cheaper than new engines for the doo

lmao.... I ent going to lie... before even thinking of trying another srx.. i was looking at a mxz 700 or 800.... but looking at the km's on all the ones that are for sale are 7000 plus with a fresh top end... but supposedly after you hit 6000km's and you are playing in a mine field with the bottom end on those skidoos
I agree with Ding that the Mono skid on my Attak makes the ride night and day better than my Mnt Viper's skid/ride.....Ding said:Just be aware that the newer skids (2006 and newer) are night and day better than an SRX or a Viper. But I could never give the Viper up .... I just love the thing. there is something about the triple that is just irreplaceable!
