I own a 2002 viper and last year i had some low end power problems so i rode a bit maybe 10 miles to see if it was just a bit of old gas(drained yearly) from storage but it didn't come out of it so i decided to clean up the carbs and to check it out the carbs were definitely gummed up good, so i got nervous due to my uncles srx blowing up that same week and we checked the cylinder psi and one of the outer cylinders was down to 70psi and the other two about 88-93psi, basically im curious if i have a bad crank seal or something of that nature has anyone else experienced this and if so what was it? i ordered a complete gasket kit for a complete tear down and rebuild new rings and honed cylinders also power valve cleaning.....if anyone wants pics of the rebuild let me know im starting this weekend. thank you in advanced
PS sorry if that was long winded!

Those compression readings are low. Was the compression test taken while holding the throttle wide open? Did you pull the engine over with quick hard pulls? Are you sure of the condition/accuracy of the compression gauge? If these are accurate readings, then for sure you need to refresh the top end. How many miles are on the engine? Refreshing the top end of this engine is pretty straight forward. You'll get plenty of help from this site.

I would think that it would have a very hard time even starting at those numbers. Check the comp gauge first before doing anything else. If you are in dought you checked it right just do a search on comp tests it will tell you everything you need to know. It is so important to clean the carbs EVERY season.

1) the gauge was new snap on model i got from snappy the night before at work and yes i did two test one with out throttle open and one with it open, also quick hard pulls, also engine has 7800 miles on her so shes probably due,i have definitely learned my lesson on carb clean up after this.

2) she starts right up after i cleaned the carbs and she didnt seem to doggy almost normal self you now the adage of two strokes screaming before they blow up kinda like that, also been thinking if i open it up and its a mess i might go big bore and pipe her not sure yet depending on cost of rebuild or plain old freashin. ps thanks for the replies!! :rocks:

JMO If you decide to open it up. Send the cylinders out for porting and thro some fresh rings in. I had Mrviper700 port my cylinders. Really wakes up the motor and the milage stayed the same.

thank you stein700sx i am in the process of sending them out i spoke with him and it sounds like its gunna be awesome
