'98 SRX track/suspension issues HELP!!!!!!!!!
I got a rx1 this year and was gonna pass the srx onto my wife. Aftershe rode it around i was gonna start getting it ready and i noticed that the inside of the track has a gouge in it all the way around the center. Dont know if it was there when i got it last year or if its something that happened while i was riding it last year. Nothing looks to be broken, but i notice the shock mounts are very close, but look wider and more rounded so i dont think that it came from them......Help!!!! I need to get the wife adicted like me!!!

Sounds like the front short shock bottom axle has broke the ears off and has rotated down towords the track.Have seen it happen often.

I looked at it and the tabs arent broken, but there is a gold fox shock in there that feels like it might have a peak in the front on the bottom. Whats the easiest way to look at this? Is it in backwards,or is it the wrong one? Thanks for the help!!!

Strange fox you say?Has been put in for shure. Can you take a pic? The ears are hard to see if they broke but not immpossable.Stick a bar in there and see if it moves up and down if you rotate the shock mount.
if it didnt break the bolt in the bottom cross shaft,,, for shock ...mabe the track was loose and slappin the top shock mount ....

lol....guess i dont know what ears your talking about....is this good or bad
Looks as though the shaft where the shock hooks onto is broken on the left side... Not connected to sliderail. You should have at least 1.5" from bottom of shock to inside of the track... Check it out before riding.....

Yes very bad lol see the first pic there is small bolts behind the axle there is supposed to be ears or plates welded there. To keep the axle from turning when the shock bottoms out.
Rip the skid out and get another axle. The 98s did not have a slot cut in them like the newer years do.
There is bound to be lots of other work to do as well.IE bushings.Rails are toast now as well.

If your looking on the right side of the pic, i just repalced a loose bolt there where it was moving, but still doesnt seem to be the prob, because of the gap. I had my cousin on the phone while he was looking at his, and we cant figure out why the spacing of my shocks vs the track is so diffrent.Whammy said:Looks as though the shaft where the shock hooks onto is broken on the left side... Might Not Be The Cause But You Do Have Parts Missing , They Are Correct
When Your Up To It You Should Pull The Skid , Inspect The A Arm , It Will Likely Be Broke , So Will Each Plastic Spacer On Each Side Of The Aluminum Shaft , And You Willn Also See If The Lobes Of The Shocks Are Worn , Maybe There Just Too Big
Vince
PARTS I HAVE LOTS

If you stare at the pic you can see were the bolts on the limiter straps have rubbed on the strap causeing it to tear. The axle turns down when there is weight on it rubbing the track as well. The ridge on the rail is missing so you will need at least one rail.
I got tired of this junk and put a doo skid in mine.Wifes sled to do next.

I currently have my skid out of my 01 srx as i am upgrading to viper long travel suspension, took the w-arm off to be re-welded, found the center shock lower mount had beed rubbing (the origional) on the track, took the whole bar off and found both outer ears had snapped free from their origional junk welds. not happy. had them welded back on. trying to get another season out of this skid, m-10 or expert-x if it breaks again!
