bearing question.

i split the case on my 97 600 to swap the crank. found the middle bearing was puked. my question is what is this wear caused by on this bearing ? it almost looks like metal transfer of some sort. is this case still usable or should i find another ?

i know someone at least had the jugs off this pryer to me buying it , but i have no idea what if anything was done to the lower end as it was doa when i bought it.

thats caused by the bearing chattering in the case ,usually from running for lots of miles with a slightly bent crank .seen lots like that years ago ,we use to put a small amount of bearing mount on the affected areas and use the case again .

Wouldn't it be beating up the PIN and other parts opposing that area if the crank was bent???

not really.i said a slightly bent crank for lots of miles. all the ones i seen had less than straight cranks.not sure why they only transfer metal in certain areas like in his pic but i have seen them chattered like that all the way around also.

to me it looks like at one time some one removed an inperfection with a small pencil grinder just my opinion its kind of blurry

yeah not the best pics but there pretty good considering my camera. what you stated was my thought , but it seems to be more like actual metal transfer , whats missing from the case is actually on the bearing. i actually thought maybe the case was bad at some point and someone used bearing retaining compound to try to fix it.

so your saying a couple drops of retaining compound and i should be good to go ? its less than 1/2" on the bottom of the case and on closer inspection about 1/4" 180 degrees across from it. i will be runnig a diffrent crank.
