Primary clutch removal

Gotta primary clutch question. I am removing my primay on my 2000 SRX. This is the first time doing this. I bought the primay clutch removal tool. I have removed the main bolt and washer. I put the clutch removal tool in and torked down W/ impact and it didn't budge. I tried the grease trick as well and it still won't budge. Am I missing something or do I have a stubborn clutch?
 
You got a fighter. Heat up the inner shaft with a propane torch & keep slowly tightening the puller. I had one that needed nuclear fission to remove.
 
I would not sugest not using an impact as you could cause damage to crank bearings.. Check to make sure you did not bend the end of the clutch tool. Try the grease thing again, and you do have to keep the thing from rotating, using a peice of wood in between clutch openings, breaker bar may help.
 
Got it, took a 4ft crow bar wraped in a towel, a 1/2 breaker bar W/ 2ft of extension 2 people and some elbow grease. That thing came off like a rocket. Thanks guys
 
She sounds like a cannon coming off when it lets go & it flies pretty good too. Done a few of those in the day!
 
if you ever get one again that gets stubborn, try threading the clutch pulling tool in tight w/ratchet and then hitting the puller w/a ball peen hammer, and sometimes the "shock" is enough to get the clutch to pop off the taper on the crank.
 
I've read several times that leaving the tension on the puller and then throwing a frozen bag of peas/corn on the shaft and walk away. You'll hear it when it pops loose.

Sorry guys but i ve got to disagree. The absolute best method for removing a stubborn clutch is to lean your sled up on the right side after removing the retaining bolt wrap the threads of your puller with teflon tape then pour hot hot water into the hole in the clutch then thread your puller in. It s similar to the grease method but so much more effective. Hold the clutch properly and use a wrench NOT an impact! And yes i ve done the hammer thing and it causes damage to crank bearings and flywheel magnets. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAMMER ON YOUR CLUTCH! And yes I m a ski doo guy but no clutch is more of a pain in the . . . then the Mach Z clutch. May be a different brand but we re all just here to ride. And yes I like Yammies. But really try this method. It works. And the crank bearings are from experience. They re not meant to bear side loading impacts. My .02

Sounds good and pretty logical, but lose the bombardier in a water hole bud and do us all a favor! LOL
 
I tried that frozen water trick & it didn,t work even at -30.

Frozen water? Who said to freeze the water? Boil the water!!! Then pour it in. The heat and pressure with the teflon tape do the same as the torch does. And sorry dude at least i don t have to swap all of my suspension out to get my sled to ride and if i recall i m not the one who has to worry about water holes. Ski doo may as well be sea doo. Not bashing just laying out the facts. My next sled will be a close race between a doo and a yam. Hard to fault my sled when you drop the hammer on a 1000 twin. Wanna try it? Come to ny. I ll let anyone try it. But I want it back!!!

Hard to hold the hammer when your hands are asleep ;>)

...and I wouldn't go to NY to throw up!

I like to get 10's of thousands of miles on my sleds thats why I choose Yamaha, reliability is the key! If I wanted to be a mechanic every day I would have bought a BOMBardier or even worst an Arctic Cat

I have hit the clutch puller with a hammer with all my might and I bench my own weight! I needed to use a cuttin torch to remove mine due to rust and I found this was the easiest way so ill stick to this method! Turk knows wats up! so what the man says goes!
 
Put lots of senthetic grease on your threads of puller and use the proper clutch holder so you are not damaging your rams of your clutch, use a 1/2 inch ratchet with a snype on the handel for maximum leverage and have someone hold the clutch and pull that ratchet till she pops off, it will come off,
