The only thing i dont like about the slidekicks is they arent at the very front of the hifax, so the hifax is still getting headed up to melting point before something is getting on them to cool em off... i like the yamaha ones better since they could get up towards the front of the contact point of the hifax and cool things off before they melt down to your suspension rails...

Wanted some ice scratchers this year. Melted some sliders in one day last year. With all the river ridding I wanted some for me, my father and friend.

None of us had any ice scrachers before so I did lots of searching on skid vs ski mounted ones. Custom wisdom would think skid mounted in the middle won't protect the front hyfax. But everyone that actually has them says otherwise like mntvipermn. My guess is that the snow that gets on the skid gets carried in the front by the track to lube the front hyfax.

As for brand well the only cable style that seems to be holding up and strong enough are the second generation Slidekicks. Most others even homemade one with tailgate cable are not doing it. Yamaha's seems well designed as long as the cable is not long enough to hit the belly pan. I seen allot of complaints of damages with this setup.

Seems like all spring styles work but longevity is key. The two most recommended are Summitseeker's.

and RSI's. I went with these which I find a cleaner install without any bolt head showing up.

I bought them here for 38$. Lots of places sells them online even directly from RSI if you wish. What made my decision was the cheaper USPS shipping to Canada from this place.

I installed the three set this week. On my fathers 136" Venture no problem. My 121" no place at all on the rails. Friends RS Venture 144" the rails are different and we couldn't install without grinding a flat spot on the rail. So instead for him and me I installed them on our skis. Should do the trick!
