well my summer project is done. Replaced the rings, painted the pipes, added Expert X rear and Ohlins extensions, raised the seat and bars. Check it out here:

note that the picture descriptions are more for my Facebook friends who aren't familiar with snowmobiling.
Now I'm ready for the snow.

Man that really turned out nice. Hope you dont mind me asking where you got those ice scratchers, i really like how they mount.
sweet sled!
that's 23000kms? nice. I got 9000 on mine.
What oil have you always used? Let us know how it feels after. I'm sure you will lose that srx corner feel but it will be MUCH better for long trips.
The front shock extensions....do they just raise the front end or actually ADD travel? thanks

Looks good just like mine! Handling does suffer a bit but the ride is excellent!
Be prepared for some fun! Turks clutching and an Expert could get dangerous LOL
This is from about 70 MPH LOL

thanks for the comments. I still love my SRX. I don't like pulling up to the pumps with my brother-in-law with his Apex, but I won't save $16k in gas so it's still not worth it for me!
yes still original engine. first time it was opened. here's what the inside looked like: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=89627&id=719315215&l=11fe04de27
I got the ice scratchers from Royal Distributing ($60CDN). I tried the rail mounted ones before but they don't fit on the SRX's short rails. My Dad took them for his Venture, but they wear the rail where they rest. Also, with the running board mounted ones, it should spray snow further up front and work better (I hope).
The shock extensions add height and travel. It's basically a 1/2 inch shock rod that you screw on between the existing shock rod and the bottom mount. you don't see the joint because the rubber stopper covers it. I'll try to get a picture of the joint to show you, but maybe try Pioneer Performance's website to see if they have a better description.
no need for cable extensions with the 3" riser on my sled. I had to re-route the throttle cable around the bottom steering mount to gain a little extra play once the air box was back in place, but it works fine. ran the engine and turned the bars all the way left and right.
as for snow, we've had a few snow falls in the last few weeks, but nothing that stayed more than a day or two. The lakes should start to freeze by the end of the month or mid December. Still riding the grizzly a lot, and even had the FZ6 out for a ride last night. I'd like to put away the summer toys on one weekend and take out the winter one the next! We'll see how short the in-between season will be :-)

Sled looks super clean- I love the painted exhaust- So u media blasted the pipes then painted or powder coated them?
TopgunnSRX- Are u lifting it up like that at 70? So just cruising and mashing the throttle? What mods?

lifting the srx
I had the same objective as you for lifting the srx, just a differemt approach. The aluminum side risers allow for two storage containers which slide in from the rear where there is a hinged aluminum door. : )
Seat remains stock from the outside.

hey where did you get the running board traction covers?? they look like they would also stiffen the running boards as well.

looks good. That was going to be my second approach, if I didn't like the higher seat. I like the storage idea too.otis700 said:I had the same objective as you for lifting the srx, just a differemt approach. just spray paint. brand is VHT (very high temperature I guess). I expect it will fade on the few rides, but it's primarily for rust protection. I've painted the pipes several times before, but never removed the heat shields to do it. I did it this time and realized that the pipes (especially #2) was rusting on the bottom. A few years ago, I replaced the stock clamps with adjustable hose clamps so it's easy to remove them now.jay-s said:Sled looks super clean- I love the painted exhaust- So u media blasted the pipes then painted or powder coated them?

I got the tank bag made this week. It's not very big, but the point was to fill the gap between the tank and seat. I also got my tarp modified to fit over the taller bars and windshield. I updated the album with the new pictures. Some I'll have some with the sled in the snow!

thanks Eric. so far so good. I haven't tried it too much. As I was about to hit the first set of bumps, I tensed up and got ready to get off the seat... but then the suspension just swallowed the bump completely! It was a nice surprise.
I got mine from a friend. He had it on an RX1 but stripped the sled when a rod went through the crank. I think they are about $2k new from A.D. Boivin in Québec. Try doing a search. You can also check eBay.
