Hey,
anyone have any quick tricks for removing one. I soacked it with kroil and still rounded it off. It is in an awkward spot(track tightening bolt) or I would take the dremel cut off wheel to it. Isn't there a nut splitter tool or something?

You have to cut your track off :rofl:

No, please don't do that !!!

I would simply pull your rear axle out. Then you can work on it on the bench.

There are nut extractors, nut splitters, and even special wrenches and sockets for damaged nuts, but you will likely have a hard time getting any of them in there.

Sometimes I have pounded a smaller socket on a damaged nut and got it to turn. Jig-a-loo is the best spray I have found to free frozen nuts and bolts.

Did you try tightening a little before loosening it?
 
Thanks for all the great ideas. I actually thought about sticking a smaller deep well socket through the track window and "pounding " it on.
Stupid question but, how do I pull out the rear axel if I can't turn the nut to take off the track tension?

x2 , have someone sit on sled , transfer rod will compress towards idlers , jam it up there with a wedge , i have used a piece of copper pipe , vise grips with a wrag etc... then you can hoist it up or turn it to its side and it will stay in its compressed position

OK, I must be slow or something! I get the compressing and blocking the rear suspension. Does the rear shaft separate when I take the rear wheels off? The tightening nut/threaded rod looks like it is attached to the skid. Am I missing something?
 
assuming its a yammy ? i should have asked i guess ...remove the cotter pin , 17mm wrench and 19 mm on other side , remove the nut , the shaft will slide out ...you may half to persuade it a litlle ..carefull not to screw up threads ... its not part of the skid , wheels spacers and washers will all fall out and you should be able to remove skid... what i meant was if you compress the skid this procedure may be easier seeing as the tensioner nut is stripped on one side ...

Yeah it is an 89 exciter. It is not a shaft in the rear; the front is like you described. If I was to compress the suspension and remove the front shaft I could slide the rear out to work on it? A Little confused.
 
That model skid should have the long axle bolt that simply goes through the tensioner collars which have the threaded rod welded to them. The part that they slide in is attached to the rail.

The advice above should be valid.

Take a pic so we can be sure it is a Yamaha skid in there.
 
i think the above are not referring to removing the entire skid, but removing the rear axle and the components they entail. by removing the axle, the wheels and spacers will come off creating a little more working space to free the stripped adj nut. if its a yamaha skid, you will see a nut on one side, with a hole drilled through the axle for the cotter pin, and a bolt head on the other side. as mentioned above, 17mm and 19mm socket or wrench. poo and ac will use a 9/16 wrench, and have a bolt on each side. let me know when you cut it off, er i meant finally remove it. i have a couple adj bolts with nuts laying around somewhere.
