I'm looking at a 99 vmax700sx w/3800 miles. Please provide experience with this sled and anything to look for. Also, what kind of performance should I expect? What is stock HP?

These are great sleds with slot-car like handling. They hold up very well and can be easily tuned (see Turk's clutch tuning on tech page along with air box, head gasket and silencer mods) to take on any 800 and hold its own. HOwever, you are going to want to long travel both the front and rear suspension using Viper shocks, limiter straps and upper front shock mounts. I have the 600 SX and have about 10K miles on it and it is still running strong.

IMO that sled has the best 2-stroke motor out of any snowmobile out there.(redheaded 700 triple) You can expect I think 100hp. Just rebuilt a 97 SX for the first time at 7500 miles. Ran great the day I tore it down. I can truthfully say we've been running our 2 SX's for 5+ years now, and have yet to be left on the trail by them, or any of our Yamaha's infact (besides a bad fuel meltdown on our Viper where our other, exactly the same setup, Viper pulled it back).

Check the rear suspension for the W-arm cracked. It's a known problem in all of the Yamaha proaction suspensions. Other than that it's a very bullet-proof sled.

I have a 98 700 sx. I've had it for 2 years now, going on my third season. I love it. I have so far left it the way it is, other than playing with the gearing and clutch set up. I got 103 mph on a gps a couple times last year, the speedo said 108. I beat my brother's old 800 zrt. He has since bought a newer Polaris 800, to take me on. Some day I will long travel it, but I like it the way it is. Basically the only difference in your sled and mine is the color, mine's Red. I bought mine with 3400 miles on it, it now has about 4600.
