the threads in my crank got boogered up when my clutch puller bent on my 96 600 twin. have i lost my mind or is the thread in the crank 1/2-20 ? id assumed it would metric but looks to be standard.

Yes it is. I did the exact same thing. I went to a machine shop supply store with my clutch bolt and found out that it was a 1/2 fine thread. I still never had my clutch off so I welded a bolt on the end of the tap and rethreaded the crank that way.
