500 going 700 Hauck bigbore continue...

Well after hearing what you all had to say I decided to not do the 700 Hauck big bore...

I sent out my 500 jugs and head out Monday and the post office said they would arrive at Hauck wed or thurs. Yesturday (wed) early morning I emailed Hauck twice saying do not start work contact me and I gave them my phone number.
Email is the only way I have been staying connected with them because that is what Titus( guy ive been talking to at Hauck) said is the best way to contact them. I finally got phone call today...
I told Titus that I had a guy that is willing trade a 700XTC for my 500 sx because his wife wants a smaller sled and that I would be doing a bigbore kit on the new 700 so can you ship me back my parts and ill buy new rings from you. He said let me check on it and ill call you back...I got the call back.
It turns out Titus was off of work yesturday (wed)and they already started boring my cylinders so now I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

So I asked about the reliability issues on them and he said if I keep stock pipe on it will be reliable but when I change pipes it will have more chance of burning down. And he said its all on how the motor is re-assembled.

So I said f*ck it just keep doing the process. Hopefully it turns out to work like they say but from what ive read from you guys its going to be ugly.

Hauck had no sympathy or regret for anything not even an apology for mis understanding. I can see it from both ways but atleast I can say they dont have very good customer service so far... There goes $1200 F my life

Bullsh--

That is such typical Hauck right there. If you think that's poor customer service wait until you need jetting and clutching help with your new big bore. I pray for you that your motor stays together longer than mine did.

Im really not to happy about the situation at all so already it puts me on the negative edge for any other obstacles that come my way from Hauck.

What type of jetting/clutching did Hauck tell you matt?(if you remember 9years ago)
Im hoping Turk can help me out more with his insane amount of knowledge and experience.
He already told me where to start for clutching and i am purchasing those items now
 
I would maybe see if you can just pay the for cylinder boring and cut your losses?

I've decided to either sell the xtc outright or keep it, unless a real nice sxr 500 crawls out of the woodwork, then I might trade.

Funny they surely are telling all other customers that they are way busy and backed up for weeks so can't get to their stuff right away (like most performance shops are at this time). But yours, they jumped right on it with no wait and nothing else in the queue before that? You sure are special...

Good way to secure that invoice $$$ so that you can't change your mind! Hey, reminds me of Chevy Chase and the Family Truckster dealer scene in National Lampoons Vacation. "Oh, it's too late. Sorry!"
Bet you still don't see it before New years...

Don't worry about clutching, stock clutching will be pretty darn close. PPfffss.

BTW, I have a brand new twin head gasket (i'm pretty sure the 500 and 600 are the same) if your interested, I'll sell it to you for $29 shipped. (I paid $48 for it.)
 
i personally think hauck blows, as well as their products and worksmanship. they say that w/aftermarket pipes, it would be more prone to burn down?? well, a lot of that is in the way its jetted/setup. i would be willing to bet that when your engine burns down, even off of their recommendation, that they just tell you that they can't help you out, cause you must have had an air leak and that you jetted it wrong, assembled it wrong, etc, etc, etc. now you're going to be out more than $1200, cause now you need to stick more $$$ into it again, to get it going again. i hope/wish you the best on this project tho.

Since you said the boring is already complete then I am assuming the whole kit should be done soon. Do you have an estimate for finish product? You said 2 weeks before but since the boring is done id like to think that 2 weeks was a pretty big cushion.

Glad you were able to get it worked on so fast without even asking for downpayment during the busiest time of year. Hope to see it back soon. Thanks! -Joe

Any ideas how I can tell them to prove that the boring is done? I remember one of my jugs had an "H" stamped on it. I really do not want the kit at all especially after hearing all the bad reviews from all you guys. I feel stuck, I guess I could Always just not pay them and have em keep my jugs and head then I could just cut my losses that way... But I don't like being "that guy"... Ooofta
 
You will get new pistons with your new 700 kit. The pistons will be a bit larger in diameter.,-- Duh, I'm thinking final product... I'm guessing you won't really know if they even started the machining.... Like others said it in their door so the job is half done....

I have been wanting to do this to my project sled. But really cant afford to do this at this time. After hearing from everyone not sure if I should even consider big boring my 500 cylinder or if I should have my 500 cylinders bored to a 600 and just port and polish them. How hard is it to port and polish them myself ? I dont know where hauck have his cylinders plated but I had millenimiun tech. do mine last year and fit my wiseco pistons in about 4 days and they looked great. What is the big bore? How big is the bore cause you can buy Wiseco piston that are .050 oversize from a stock 600 piston. Whats all involved to port and polish a snowmobile cylinder. And if you have someone elso do it how can you tell that it was ever done?
 
Funny how he is asking for a downpayment now that you mentioned it first.. Tell them to express ship your cylinders back overnight, or go there and show you the cylinders.

i hate it when people say "port and polish".....LOL. there is no "polishing" needed on the ports at all. the porting of a cylinder requires the knowledge, tools, steady hand, etc, to change the shape, size, height, width, roof angles, hook angles, etc, to get the disered BMEP value (will get desired hp #'s) at a certain rpm and to give a particular powerband. if you have never done porting yourself, never read any books, don't have the proper $800 in tools, then i wouldn't suggest going in there and starting any cutting, you can mess up a cylinder quicker than you can blink. to really do some good porting, you need to figure out a few things first.....the time/area values of the ports, blow down timing, durations of ports, port sizes as in height, width, hook angles, roof angles, port corner radius' in roof and floor, flow width, measurements from cylinder deck to port roofs, and mean area. you also need to know @ what rpm you want peak HP to be made and what the desired hp output figure is. then if you don't have some fancy software to # crunch the figures for you, then you need to create a port map and figure out the #'s w/math and long formulas. once you do this, you will find that some ports are already sufficient and some lack. the ones that lack are the ones that you want to pay attention to. but, before you do any cutting, i would suggest you read some books and/or, sending them to bender or Iantomosi.
 
Where is Iantomosi? Thanks for the info I don't think I am up for all that math. Do the cylinders need to be replated after the porting process?
 
I don't know how much it cost to get the cylinders bored, but maybe they could be sleeved to a "normal" size and you could save some money there. It honestly seems that you are wanting big power - honestly if you took a 600 or 700 triple, and triple piped it I think you would get more power than you could get from your twin for less money have more reliably. I would have no problem being "that guy", they are doing people a disservice by selling that kit today - when the twin was all there was I could understand it, but when it is so easy to make that same power more reliably, more user friendly and for about the same $ (or less if you could have sold the 500 twin) I think Hauck is just trying to dump inventory on you and clean their shelves of that last set of pistons/rings and big bore sleeves. 130hp? No Way! Maybe with pipes, but I doubt it.

Do you have a phone number for Iantomosi? Or because I am in WI would I be better off to go to Bender? Who does the best work? Sorry Hondajoe not trying to steal your thread your thread has just brought all kinds of questions to me. If I were you I would spend another 300.00 on a set of GOOD EGT gauges like the KOSO's with settable alarms may be some cheap insurance.
