Couldn't you just have them send your cylinders back cut your loss and buy some used cylinders from Ty or craigslist? Or are they hard to come by?

Sorry Hondajoe not trying to steal your thread your thread has just brought all kinds of questions to me. If I were you I would spend another 300.00 on a set of GOOD EGT gauges like the KOSO's with settable alarms may be some cheap insurance.
Bender Racing is just a distributor now after they folded and were bought up by Dyno Port. They don't have the ability to build engines anymore, as all that equipment went away in the auction. Thier ex engine builder-tuner-R&D guy Justin Fuller spun off and started his own business a few years ago (2 stroke and turbo) in Little Valley NY and has been doing very well with all his expertise and knowledge. He is the only one I trust to touch any of my stuff.

I don't believe in EGT's anymore, an old way now as usually by the time you recognize temps rising it's too late. Your better off spending that $$$ in tuning correctly.
Just for the record, NONE of our race machines have an EGT gauge on them. EGT's only tell you part of what is going on, you can still wound a cylinder with good EGT's.

your information is not correct. bender never folded. it was sold to rich daly. rich then moved it back to the original location in colden, ny. they still do porting, big bores, & build motors. they are not "just a distributor" as you also stated. in fact their old website has been redsigned on a new user friendly platform which will allow customers to order w/ visa,mc & amex. this new site will be up & running any day. benderracing.com
justin fuller is one of the best engine builders around. i have known him for many years & he built several engines for me when he was @ bender's. all performed just as promised & were very dependable.

Bob,
I am sorry, as I didn't mean to upset anyone nor slight Rich at Dyno Port. Just my observation and stating the facts as I see them... My information is VERY correct, your just electing to not tell ALL of the story.
So I will disagree with you about them "folding" because I attended the huge "going out of business" auction at the then Bender Racing location in Cowlesville NY, after the doors were closed and everyone was layed off. I don't remember if you were there but hundreds of us watched everything get carted off from welders and presses, tools and more tools, steel and other material & supplies, trucks and race trailers, cabinets and office chairs, to the clock on the wall...
I have a shop full of stuff (and a dent in my bank account) to prove it. LOL!
I could be mistaken and used the wrong term "folded", but just what would you call that, then?
Bob, no way can you call it a simple change of ownership with a location move... not after watching all the assets get dispursed or trucked away at the auction, and all the knowledge and experience that made Bender Racing who they were walk away... What was left? A name, some inventory and distribution?
I know that Tim Bender took ownership of their dyno, Full Power Performance purchased the rights to the turbo designs and all that inventory plus some equipment. Fact is that it wasn't until later that Dyno Port finally negotiated and took over the remaining 2 stroke inventory and rights to carry on the name, and what was left.
Dyno Port has engine build capability at their location, but wasn't aware he was building Yamaha engines now. Even if so, or they send it out to get done, then it's NOT the same Bender Racing any way you slice it. They could very well be building big bores and doing porting there again, but it's still someone NEW with NEW equipment and NEW experience.
I'm not bashing, just stating facts. Please clarify if you can share with us something different.
Sorry this is off topic.
BTW, hi Mike and Heath! It was thoughtful of you to direct new Turbo inquiries you guys get Justin's way. That kind gesture won't be forgotten!

i too was @ the auction & was standing w/ justin for a good part of it.
when terry bought bender racing from tim he bought the goodwill, rights to the name & inventory & that's also what rich daly bought. the items that were sold @ auction were mostly from terry's machine shop business.
heath & mike have worked for bender racing for many years & are still there. dynoport does not build their motors. they do their own. brian did my porting when justin was there still does their porting. clark ( who's more qualified than him ) does the big bores. there is only two places i would go for quality yamaha performance work....bender racing & full power performance.

Bob,
OK, it's evident that you wish to portray a different story and i respect why and I respect you so don't take any of this personally. Like I said, my intent was not to bash or belittle Bender Racing but rather to just provide the rest of a story apparently being told with partial truths.
Weren't Terry's machine shop and the Bender race shop in Colden combined when they moved under one roof in Cowlesville? The same place as the auction? You can't say anything, other then inventory, was moved back (because I'm staring at their old Kwik-Way Boring Bar from Cole Rd and I'm not boring cylinders for them that I'm aware of!) but I understand your point about what Rich got in the deal. He also didn't get the Yamaha performance knowledge and expertise that Terry got when he bought it. That knowledge and expertise isn't something you get in a book in my eyes...
Hey, if you are referring to "Clark" as the crank guru Clark Spriegel from Attica NY, I totally agree that he is top notch machinist, but we know he isn't an employee of Bender Racing (he has his own business) so looks like you just confirmed my suspicion to everyone that Bender racing is outsourcing...
I remember Brian, he was very good at grinding and polishing but as I remember only ever followed instructions and was told what to port. So who is doing the thinking and calculations now?
So how about we just let their customers and workmanship speak for themselves. Which Yamaha race teams still have stuff built and tuned there? Other then yourself, of course...
I think they are a great place to purchase Yamaha parts from, I just don't see how they have the expertise for tuning and building like they use to after all metioned and that is my only point. I very well could be wrong, but I have yet to be shown proof or even hear otherwise.
Gosh, I think we drove this way off topic.
Bob, I'm off my soap box now.

If I were you I would spend another 300.00 on a set of GOOD EGT gauges like the KOSO's with settable alarms may be some cheap insurance.
A set of EGT's are only part of jetting equation, jetting must be verified by piston wash, spark plug colour ect. Once your piston wash and plugs look ok for the temperature then you check your EGT's. The temps on the gauges could read 1100 degrees, 1200 degrees, 1300 degrees. Lets say the gauges read 1200, then you know, for that temperature, you should be good on the gauge for 1200.
Keep records of the temperature; -10 piston wash was this, plug colour was that, and EGT's were this temp. -15,-20 and so on.
With todays fuel you can't rely on just EGT's, buy a good set and I don't mean KOSO, check the classifieds for a good used set of Avenger ll-lll's or Digitron's and remember they are only one part of the equation.
Hauck Performance
Sorry to hear your situation, but I just put two big bore kits together and both seem to be great. Been doing some short runs with them and both sleds rip. I have been running Hauck parts and most of them have been an upgrade. Sometimes I wonder if the gains are worth the money, but the new motors seem to be working out great. I think with most performance shops you are kind of on your own with the fine tuning of jetting, clutching, gearing and other variables. Good luck with your project. just my .02
I will find out for sure in mid December when I get out west to dial things in for a few days.
