Where do you guys buy your gear like Helmets, gloves, goggles, jackets,pants and boots. I dont want to go to the dealer and spend outrageous money. I was also asked for some ideas as to what I would like for Christmas. Thanks

Here in Michigan we used to have a place called Recreational Leisure, that used to offer deals on previous year apparal and spin to win discounts. to bad they're gone now. Alot of people go to the snowmobile super shows and yes it is also a good idea to ask for snowmobile related items for christmas and or birthdays. Go to Port yamaha (link on this site) and look and ask about itms that you may need. Snowmobiling really isn't an inexpensive sport to get into. You got me thinking while typing this - MAN have I got $$$ tied up into snow suits helmets boots gloves... Not including the goodies on the sled. T

Rec leisure's inventory was bought out. They dont' carry the "gear" that it used to. Still have alot of parts though. They are in a different location but the number still worked last year when I called.
If you need a helemt and do a lot of really cold weather riding, the best helmet money can buy (in my opinion anyway) is the SkiDoo BVS2. I have always had trouble with fogging regardless of temperature until I bought my BVS2. Next to getting a Viper, this was the best snowmobile purchase I have ever made. The best prices I have seen on this helmet are from www.centre-sports.com
I am hardcore Yamaha and feel goofy with a SkiDoo helmet, but until Yamaha can make something as good as the BVS2, I will be a Poo head I guess.

I run a ski-doo modular as well.... I've got it covered in yamaha tuning forks though!

If you don't mind finding a used one and cleaning it real good then craigslist is the way to go. There are also some good deals on new ones too. I bought a bv2s on there from some idot that thought it was a motorcycle helmet. Got it for 40 bucks. But before i even put it on cleaned it and bought a new mask for it. So i have a total of 80 into a 450 helmet. My friend has one and never had a prob. with it.. so we will see.

you guys that have those skidoo helmets, do you find em heavy as thumper stated, i,ve gone through 3 helmets, tried heated sheilds, tried various undergear for fogging, to no avail. i'd pay $1000 to see if that's what it took, but $250 in that first link for the leftover model is looking real good right now
First figure out what brand and model you want. Then simply check the mail order houses. The Klim stuff is excellent if you are active on your sled (off-trail, agressive, etc.) Many other brands work well if you sit down trail ride.
In defense of the dealers, they make most of their money on parts and accessories. If you ever seen a dealers books, you might be surprised at the net income from unit sales. Negative numbers are not that uncommon. If you have one that really treats you nice, you may want to consider giving them your business.
If you like Yamaha branded stuff (they don't make clothes or helmets, just have their name put on it), then Port Yamaha is an excellent place to shop. Too bad you missed the shows this year because they have great prices there.

I don't think my ski-doo modular is heavy. I have the other version than the bv2s. It took some adjustment to get used to and some playing to get my communicator right. I would have went to the bv2s when I replaced my first one (I went butt over tin cups and thought it was smart to retire the helmet) but I had the heated shield on the first style and the heated shield isn't cheap. The first helmet looks fine. The second one is almost exactly the color of my SRX.
I noticed the Yamaha now has Klim Aclimate bibs. I almost went with them but went regular Klim towagatee. Actually the Yamaha ones were cheaper than the plain Klim aclimate.

if your looking at buying riding gear as well I woud suggest you buy the clothing with the Gor-Tex. Klim has that lined pretty well sewn up now but they are worth the extra money. I had bought leftover gear from Yamaha with the Gor-Tex at the Novi sled show a couple of years ago for less then half price. keeps you nice and warm and dry. i've got the bibs, coat and gloves, best money i ever spent. the first time i used them we got caught in some freezing rain up in Owen Sound for at least 1 hour. never got wet at all. my buddies were soaked thru and thru. bascially you get what you pay for, that goes for the helment as well 
Unfortunately you are right. I picked up a yamaha reima goretex jacket from a member here last year. I had red river bibs from RU outside that were "supposed" to be as good as goretex. I guess they were the first year or so that I didn't get wet. Last year I did. Hence the new bibs.
two days after the show and I had my bibs, I found out one guy who sometimes rides with us is now a Klim dealer and would have given us his price.

Klim gear all the way. I started sleddin after taking 8 yrs off (3kids), all I remember about snowmobiling is being wet and cold. I bought the bibs and WOW, bone dry after all day in powder, wearing nothing but long undies under, even in -30. Wore my gore-tex hunting boots last year and they were great but a lace eyelet ripped my seat, booo. I bought the Yamaha/Kilm boots this year and i'm sure they won't dissapoint. Everybody, go Klim or Gore-tex all the way, your sleds are worth a ton of money, don't be cheap on gear! Looks like my gear will sit a while longer, still plus 4 today. Bullsh*t. haha
