1985 Yamaha Bravo

I need a manual for my kids 1985 bravo...I need to adjust the carb!!! The snow is here and he is ready to start training for the slednecks crew!!(joke...he is only 9yrs) What is a good site to read about that carb spec?

Should have a Keihin BD32-28 butterfly carb. Very simple carb, and easy to clean/adjust.

Simply clean it be sure all circuits are clear and working. It should have an idle stop screw and a pilot adjust screw on the top. The main jet is fixed. Stock pilot setting is 1 1/4 turns out from lightly seated. Start there and adjust as needed. You will want it a little rich at idle so it picks up without a stumble when the throttle is opened. Set your idle speed around 1000 - 1100 rpm. Once you have the carb clean, and the idle set, adjust the cable freeplay if needed, and then the oil pump.

The owner's manual can be seen at the Yamaha site and should have some basic adjustment info in it.

I did take it apart and clean it. Its runing a little under powered now...The large screw on top,seat it and back off 1 1/4 turns? Right?

Yes on the top of the carb, but that will only affect idle mixture and slightly above.

Did you check compression?

That year should not have the decomp, but if it does it may be leaking.

It ran great all last season.Just after I cleaned the carb I noticed the sled wasn't quite right(today).I am a fire fighter,not a mech. guy at all!! I dont know any thing about cmopression,

Must have got something on wrong or not cleaned out.

I would go back through it.

• When you clean the carb make sure you spray carb cleaner through the jets, and that it comes out where it should.
• Take the pilot screw right out and inspect it.
• Check the starter plunger to be sure it is seating and sealing when the starter lever is off.
• Did you reconnect the electric wires?
• Is the needle valve and float installed and adjusted right?
