Well even though i was nervous about doing it i dug into my PV's this morning to see what was in store for me. I bought this 03 Viper Mountain from a guy who said he cleaned the PV's at the beginning of every season. Well after pulling them out and looking at them..... I call BULL... that or Yamalube is the worst snowmobile oil in the world as that is what he used for the 7000 miles that is on the sled.

Well here are the pics of before and after so you can see, I soaked them each in a simple green bath for about 30 minutes then used Gumout carb cleaner and a scotchbrite green scrubby. Heading up in the morning looking for snow, we will see how she likes the nice clean PV's

Took about 10 minutes a piece scrubbing the carbon off after soak

another easy way to clean the PV's is to take a small knife and scrape the stuff off...

Or just run Amsoil like do. I finally did mine after 2000 miles and they were hardly dirty. Maybe he just rode like a chud and gummed them up to.

Thats why one should NEVER take someone's word for it when it comes to PV's. It's soo simple to pull em out and check then clean one should always do it.

Oh and did you check adjustment wile in there??

He probably did clean them once a year.That's not enough unless you don't ride much.I've had to stop and clean mine half way through a trip.Put on approx. 2,200 miles that week.Most oils used you will have to clean them every 1,000 miles.I usually put too many miles on to be running expensive oil,so I got good at cleaning them.

i know when they released the srx they claimed it to be a self cleaning powervalve system, but that just isnt the case, gotta clean em

It was advertised as self cleaning power valves witch included a PV cycle(open/close)upon every start up.

I thought they also cycle on long decels as well.

Well, I looked at my SRX file and couldn't find why I thought they cycled on long, closed throttle decel. Thought I read it somewhere. It's going to bug me know.

I stand corrected. But I'm still looking ;>)

I think he runs junk oil and sold you some bs. Come over to syn oil like most of us have it is worth the money
