Warning check your sleds for swatters - those with covers on bars
Man it was a sunny day and great for tinkering on my sled. I was going to replace the oil pump but with the oil lines pretty short and the danger of dropping the lower mount screw. I just adjusted the cable such that the cam on the pump arm did bottom out and was less than the scribe alignment at full throttle. (It drinks oil)
I was checking to see if I could put some back end play on the trottle leaver. There is play in the pivot bushing but not the lead of the lever. Seem like they're pretty well seal at and under the foam leather center steering arm cover. I had just opened it enough to see and zipped it back up. I saw a clump of stringy foam and huh...opened up to look again and more under their!! I took the whole thing off and man oh man.... what the... mice got in there and made a nest. Chewed wire and some where melted and many stripped. These go to propriety connectors. The two worst ones were for the left handlebar heat grip. So I am taping them up.
Can I set a trap in their???? Good thing it’s sunny and warm at the moment. It would be bad new on the trail and sub zero…
Wow good thing I looked in there see the pics.
Sorry, took three tries to get these photos posted.

LIFE MEMBER ONLY ONCE!!!
yeah I found that a couple of years ago.A small portion of the foam was chewed, but no other damage.Another thing to look at when the foam is off,and that is the handlebar could start rusting under their being snow gets in under and stays wet.I sanded the areas and touched up with Black rust paint.Yep them mice will find any place that is warm and cozy.

Zip a dryer sheet in there when you close it back up. Mice don't like 'em.

Oh, OK I'll put two in there tomorrow. I did not put the cover back on after tapeing all the chewed and stripped wires. No roof or walls for them.
Good think they didn 't cut the wires. there isn't mush to work with their.

Wow that sucks! If there is a good point, at least you found it now and not with a foot of snow on the ground! I would be furious! Good luck!

Precisely Theo, It was sunny first in quite a few days and 8-9 degrees so not bad. I was not happy but all the controls and heated grips appear to be working. But I would not have liked it if it blew something via the shorts on the trail. or even worst took the dam mice for a trail ride and get scared and drop down and bite me in the crotch while minding my own business enjoying the trail.
Certainly could have been worst so check your rides!

Ok, another sunny day but cool.OnDaTrail said:Zip a dryer sheet in there when you close it back up. Mice don't like 'em.
I put two dryer sheets around the cables under the handlebar covers.
Also one between the carbs and air box, another near the brake system cables and another in the rear seat storage.
If they don't like these. That ought to keep them dirty dying critters away and go bite something else, that I don't own that its!!
I put a couple around in my son sled parked in the same shelter. I did not see an signs of them there but he does not have foam under the rubber cover of his Formula so I guess the foam and leather wrapping was more cozy.
