Tear apart my 500 for a 700 swap or leave it alone?!

I have a nice '01 SXR500 that I have finally got to my liking (aside from still being a 500). Its mechanically in great shape and has never let me down. I recently traded a non-running sled for a 98 Vmax SX700 with vforce and bender pipes, with matching clutch kit, brand new inch track with 96 studs. The 700 has a long travel skid and some sort of adjustable t-rods. I've been wanting to go back to a triple again and my main intentions were to drop the triple into my sxr chassis and sell the old engine and rest of the other chassis, as all parts to do the swap (minus tach) will be available to me. Should I tear apart my nice 500, or keep both sleds? sell the 500? My main goal is cut back on my toys by building what i really want, which is a 700 SXR.

With the pipes the 700 has to get better milage than the 500 right? that thing sucks gas. Any advise is welcome! attached are pictures of the 500, i'll get some of the 700 tomorrow.

Looks like you already got yourself a redhead engine lol. When I was running pipes on my 700 it was worse on gas than my 500 twin. I think you should keep the engines where they are unless you want something to do. I think I will eventually put a 700 in my 500 xt when its time for a rebuild. But if you want better fuel mileage than you need the stock exhaust for the 700. Oh and it would be best if you kept both sleds ;)!
 
This is a project I want to do to my 500 vmax, if you got the time go for it.

I'd be interested in the 500 motor if you do decide to go with the 700.
 
what brand triple pipes on that 700? my brothers 700 w/bender pipes got the same mileage as a stock 600 triple
 
well if you want a 700 sxr with stock pipes for gas mileage, i guess i could bite the bullet and trade you exhaust, clutch components, and jetting :mrgreen:.
 
The red 700 does look sharp...the pipes are benders zgr700. I'm thinking about keeping the 700 the way it is and just go through it and make sure its mechanically sound. It isn't the prettiest thing around but the pipes and track are worth how much I had into the sled I traded for it. I might wait till snow falls, ride both and make my desicion from there.
 
sweet sled, how much do those drop brackets drop the rear skid? did you make them yourself??

anyone have blueprints and EXACT install instructions? PM me please, i dont wanna jack his thread.
 
If I remember right they drop the skid 2.5 inches, and they are homemade. I know CB performance was selling a nice kit with detailed instructions, might be worth looking into. I am taking mine out this year, other than better deep snow performance, I feel they hinder handling more than they help. Expect alot more ski pressure.
