Hi guys, I have a 99 SRX 700 and just re-built the carbs, cleaned the air box and basically went through the enitre machine. When I picked it up it was running on only 2, and now it still is after all of the carb work. I seem to be getting spark on cyl 1 when I hold the plug to test it but the pipe is not getting hot, and the plug stays wet. Does anyone know if this may be a bad coil, or if it could be something else like the CDI? Maybe the spark is just not strong enough?
Thanks guys-
Roger

check the compression, piston could be burnt down in that cyl.
I actually checked the compression on all 3 when I bought it. What should they be? I think I remember I got somewhere between 98 and 100 something...?

X2
Also:
- wind the spark plug cap off of the wire and exchange it with another cylinder...see if the problem moves with the cap. It is not uncommon for the resister in a cap to fail.
-next I would check the coil, if possible exchange it with one you know is to be good
if its a 99 just cross the spark plug wire they spark all at same time ...u will see if its a coil..no firing order needed for wire place 98-99

That makes the trouble shooting quick + easy!

Accuracy of guages can vary the reading quite a bit. What is important is that all three cylinders read within approx 10lbs of each other on the same guage. Obviously if the other two cyliders are firing OKAY with the same compression reading as the dead one...compression is probably not the issue.
Oh That's awesome, I had no idea there was no firing order. I will try that! I will also re-test compression. Anyone happen to know hiw high they should be? 100, 115 psi?
Thanks guys!

Depends on the gauge, They all seem to vary somewhat. If your between 100 and up you should be ok. Stock, fresh rebuild, mine reads about 125 -130 on my gauge.
Cool, thanks so much guys. Be nice to get er goin. I think this machine will be a real good fit for me this year.

if it doesnt work take a look at those reed ..................

Sounds like you have fuel and spark and one wet plug, my SRX is always a bear to start after I clean the carbs, I put the NGK heat range eight plugs in for my first start up of the year and this seems to help get them all lite quicker w/out fouling the plugs.

On my gauge..the compression showed 121 psi
