Hey guys, Just picked up a 02 Viper this summer. Just went through the carbs to prep them for the season and cleaned the power valves. Everything went real smooth thanks to all the threads and power valve tech sections so thanks for that! Just had a question on reassembly, should I lube the valves with oil or anything when reinstalling? I assume I should put some oil on the seal the valves ride in but should the rest of the valve be dry or a light coat of 2 cycle? I didn't seem to see anything about that in all my searches.

Also my fuel screws were all about 2.25 turns out, and it seemed to run just fine through the yard and stuff so I put them back to that setting. From what I've read on here anything below 1 7/8 turns the vipers tend to get an idle hang so I'll leave them at that and try it out. Pilots and mains are stock sizes and I'm at about 800 feet above sea level. Thanks for all the good viper info on the site!
 
I can't really speak to your carburator settings.

You don't need to put any oil on the power valves. Once you have cleaned them, just put them back in and adjust them. The oil is what makes them dirty in the first place :) The oil from the gasoline/oil mix is what causes the build up on the power valves causing them to stick (if you don't clean them of course). If you use good synthetic 2 cycle engine oil like Klots or AMS oil you should not have a problem. Sometimes you won't even need to clean the valves, depending on how you ride.

Good luck with carb settings, you should be able to get that info from the manual. If you ask I think there is a guy on here that can give you the .pdf manuals for that sled if you don't have them.
 
Yep, i know its the oil that carbons them up, I was just thinking that metal parts sliding in metal parts was bad without some kind of lube, but I'll just reinstall and adjust them and go from there. I'm running amsoil interceptor and as far as i know thats what the previous owner had been running too.

I have seen the manuals and the tech section on the stock carb settings. I've also seen the threads where some folks have had to adjust up to 2+ turns on the fuel screws too. Since thats where they were, and this will be the first season i'm riding the sled, i'll start from there. if I've got any kinds of funky carb problems i'll adjust from there. Thanks guys!
 
J K auto; I saw that thread on cleaning the valves. I am a technician at a GM dealer in the US and we don't carry Kleens either. I ended up soaking the valves in Evinrude engine tuner and scrubbing them with a fine wire brush. They cleaned up excellent and the brush didn't leave any scratch marks, or remove the coating.
 
Doesn't really matter on oil,i've done it i haven't done it and haven't seen anything better either way,as far as the pilots vipers like 2ish turns out to avoid idle hang so yes your in the ball park.

did you adjust them valves too wile you were in there?

yep, I completely removed them so I could let them soak, so I did the adjustment.
