Anyone know what the difference in 1998 srx pistons and 2001 srx pistons..besides the part number... ???? or is there no difference
There is a factory coating on the 00-02 pistons but other than that there is no other difference.

the coating is on the 98-99 pistons to. there the same in every way. the coating is just around the ring area and the center of the dome on the piston.

So no difference the 00-02 piston's are $ 10.00 More..I have to replace 1 piston in my sled along with 3 sets of rings, gausket kit..ect..I can't remember when i ordered them they were 98 or 01 pistons...will find out tonight but was just wondering what the difference was ...called yamaha and they didn't have a clue except the part number was 1 off and 1 was $ 10.00 more..lol They said I think the 01 srx have more compression..but they didn't know for sure...bahahaa
I should have just ordered a full set of wiseco piston's would have been the same price for 1 yamaha piston and 3 sets of rings/gausket kit ect...but all ready measured my squish and sent my heads away...Ahhh.. Know for next time I guess..lol

i wondered that too, there was an oem 99 piston new in the box on e-bay a few weeks back, had like a $35 starting bid and ended with no bids

ya the price difference is more dealer related than anything, some places the 98 piston is $10.00 more than the 01 piston. my wifes 98 has had 2 01 pistons and 1 98 piston for the past 10000km,s and still hauls ***.

I see, I figured one would be lighter or something allitle different to give more compression or something...compression on your sled have all the same compression??? Just don't see the sense in paying $ 10.00 more for the same thing...

i thought the same a few years back so i compared the two. same in all dimensions the weight is the same +/- 0.25 gram . the compression difference if any is in the heads the 00-02 head are a little tighter but this was done to gain back the slight compression loss from the slightly higher exh port on the 00 and up cyl's.
