I bought a second viper, a 2004 with no motor.I have a spare motor out of a 2002 viper.I know I have to change the head, but is there anything else I have to change? The 2004 is a complete roller except for the bottom end and jugs.

The 04 had DCS thats really the only difference. If you want DCS, then you will need to buy a 04 head. You can also just ground out the DCS sensor or you can buy an 02, 03 CDI box so you really dont need to buy a 04 viper S head.

You cannot just run the sled with the DCS unplugged. Any other viper would be a direct swap

I have a 2002 cdi box and wiring.I would like to keep the dcs on it.I have the head but has some combustion chamber damage from a piston ring coming up.I guess the stator is the same? Anybody got a head off a 2004 viper they want to sell??

is the 04 wiring, 04 CDI, and DCS sensor still in the sled?

Stator is the same.. The only difference in the wiring is the added circuit from the sensor to the CDI box which the sensor tells the CDI to cut the timing in the ignition when it senses detonation.

Get an 04 head

After that, your good to go

Another option but possibly more expensive for you is to find a 2002 SRX water rail and SRX heads 00-02 heads The sensor was screwed into the water rail on the 02 SRX. The 3 piece head design also allows for better cooling on the viper motor and equalizes the compression. You would have to get the cylinders grooved for O-rings though at the machine shop.
