Went for ride today and sled felt like it was slipping a belt or something. Would pull out of the hole no problem, but rev it up and there was some definite slippage. If i took it easy for a few minutes, it almost seemed like the belt would "warm up" and away it went... no problems. This normal? Checked belt width, just shy of 1-3/8". Belt looks to be in decent shape. Maybe my primary not shifting properly? Any thoughts appreciated!

are primary clutch, secondary clutch and drive belt nice and clean/serviced?

what belt you running?

The belt doesn't have any numbers on it, was the one i bought it with last season. I do have another one that loks lke it is brand new, will give it a try.

Typically, how many kms should i get out of a clutch before it needs any major work? Sled has 2,700kms on it.

Dumb question, but what day-to-day maintenance do you guys do? I have heard of guys spraying WD-40 and all kinds of crap onto rollers and such, but I am a little leary about spraying anything close to the clutches.

Any tricks of the trade??

Thanks.

Now that i think about it, I did notice it happen on the last ride of last year as well. i didn't think too much of it, because if you feathered the throttle a bit and babied the belt a bit, it would go away. like i said, as soon as it gets over the "slippage", you don't notice it again, until you start out cold again.

Could be frost on the clutches, it takes a few min to warm up the clutches. Could be a little snow getting on the primary. Yamahas are famous for getting the belts wet when skipping water , revs out and the belt slips also. Thats why my yammi stays on snow or ice and what bluemonster said also make sure you have the right belt on there!

I'm curious too about the PM aspect on the clutches...do you guys do anything with respect to pre-season clutch maintenance? Or general preventative maintenance with the clutches?

I replaced the bushings and buttons before last season. It had 20,000 kms and it was due. 2,700 kms is like new. Spring should be fine too. If a new belt isn't brushed or cleaned first, it could dirty the faces and cause slipping, but I'm assuming you've cleaned the faces...

funny you should mention cleaning the faces... i heard a guy tell me that he takes some really fine emery cloth and rubs down the faces. is that recommended or done by anyone else? i'm a little apprehensive about trying that without some references...

as far as the belt, i have run the same belt i have bought it with... i have put 1500kms on it without a hint of trouble til now.

maybe time for new belt.

I hear there was a lot of snow in Calgary and Edmonton.Your in between them both..how's the snow??? I am sure my bro in law in Calgary is loving it.He is from SASK. and shows them how to drive in traffic.

We got quite a bit of snow on the weekend, more west of here than in Red Deer, which is fine by me!! Riding is way better west anyways. I hear ya, i'm from Winnipeg, so i laugh my a$$ off at the guys who don't know $hit about driving in snow! All the dumb-a$$'s who put mud tires on their rig trucks are all over the road! Funny thing is, they don't even clear the streets here when it snows! They wait for the chinooks to melt it away... makes for great streets come January...

How much snow did you get in MB? We are headed back home to Elie for Christmas next week with the Yammi in the truck, so i'm prayin' you guys get dumped on!!! Ha Ha!
