I have to run half choke for a good five minutes on my 98 600 twin, before the low end bog will go away. Is this air screw adjustment, pilot jet size or needle position off?

Yes the carbs are clean. It has had the lean low end bog since I bought it new in 98. I did install vforce reeds and the thinner head gasket as soon as I got it home from the dealer but never took the time to clean up the bog. Not a real big deal because after five minutes or so the choke goes off and it runs awesome. I just rebuilt the motor after a lean burndown and now a little more cautious about carb settings.
Is this during warmup? If so what's the big deal. My sled has to sit at least 5 min before it's got enough heat in it to even think about riding.

This is the first five minutes or so of riding after a five minute idle. I know it's not a big deal, just seems like I could clean it up a little.

Mine takes a few wacks of the throttle to clean out after first starting for a few minutes, it's that rich at idle. I think youre on the ragged edge of being too lean, evident because it finally becomes sufficient enough when it's warmed up. What is gonna happen when it's nice and crisp / cold out? And it doesn't richen up enough?
I'd fatten up the needles one clip, turn the air screws in 1/2 turn, maybe even go to a bigger pilot. Better rich then a damaged ring land on a piston... or worse.

Did it have this bogg before the vforce reeds and the thinner head gasket????

I never rode the sled before the mods. Did them as soon as I brought the sled home from the dealer. I'm sure I could tinker with the carbs and figure it out, just thought I'd get some opinions as what is the most obvious.

Remove your carbs and check all specs, jets, needles, float height, every thing, stock specs are in tech section, you shouldnt have that bogg.
check and make sure pilots are open..

The only carb mod I made was dropping the main jet one size ,but did this in year two of the sled. Once it warms up enough the sled runs great, top to bottom, just takes about a mile or two down the trail until I can shut the choke off.

Do you warm up the sled any before rippen on her?? you shouldironman600 said:The only carb mod I made was dropping the main jet one size ,but did this in year two of the sled. Absolutely. I know it's only a matter of adjustment somewhere because the bog has been there since the sled was new. So with that in mind it's not a dirty carb issue but rather a lean idle circuit from what? Would the vforce reeds lean the idle mixture that much?

your not getting enough fuel off idle(pilots start then transitions to needles/they over lap )is needles in stock position?

Yes, needles are stock position .

Got it. Opened the air screws another half turn with minimal change so then I raised the needles and wow what a difference.

There ya go....

also to by opening the fuel screws you wont have that throttle hang when coming to a stop.
