Crossover tube-heat exchanger size

Hi guys, I just removed the crossover tube from my 2003 Viper tonight with the intention of installing a heat exchanger I bought in the fall. I am fairly new to snowmobiles. After removing the crossover pipe, I discovered that the heat exchanger tubing (where the rubber hose fits on) is much smaller than the crosover pipe was, meaning that it isn't going to fit the factory rubber tubing conecting it to the floor board exchangers.....

The heat exchanger I bought is the right width, and the bleeder screw apears to match the Vipers original hole pretty well. It does however look rather small to be of much effect to me??

Before I begin the process of asking the shop to take back this exchanger, I just want to make sure I haven't missed something on the install. In my reading of the threads here I never saw mention of needing special rubber hose's that where different sizes, so I am assuming I was sent the wrong heat exchanger..

Your thoughts would be most helpful,
Thanks Dave

I used the rear cooler off an mountain sx and its smaller

I went through the same thing when I extended my viper and
used a mountain sx extension and cooler. I used different hoses
and an adapter from one size to the other both sides. I read
you can stretch the smaller hose over the larger fitting by heating
the hose but I had no luck with that. vinman

Sounds like you got the wrong exchanger one probably from a VM or SX. they had smaller tubes.

look like this one,#19?

You can get the smaller hose for the exchanger and make it work. Take some near boiling water and put the end that needs to go on the running board which is the larger one in the water for about 30 to 45 seconds. mine slide right on. getting it off is a bigger problem. LOL this is how I did mine. The napa hose # is on here somewhere, but I think it was 1918 or close to it. Maxdlx

the napa number is for the smaller hose. You have to stretch it to get it on the 1 inch nipple on the floor board exchanger. The hose I listed is 3/4 hose and will fit the rear exchanger fine

I missed the new part. You got the wrong one, and they should exchange it for you. If not my suggestion should work for it. Maxdlx

Thanks a bunch for the input guys. We are getting a good bit of snow here in central pa right now so I really appreciate the help.

The smaller NAPA hoses with the part numbers are a great help, I am first going to try to return the part, I think it is most likely the wrong part. If this turns up to be a problem, I’ll go with the hoses. I measured the two as best I could and the heat exchanger I was sent is ¾ od and the crossover tube is 1 inch od.

Thanks again,
Dave
