today i got all trailing arms etc. put on the srx and a decent amount of snow went to pull the sled over and the d@mn recoil broke!!! how hard of a fix is it? thanks

I had mine break three times before i outsmarted it. You have to take the pipes off, then theres only 3 or 4 bolts holding the cover on. you may be able to reattach the handle if it broke near the end. If not then replace the rope.I purchased a 1 inch rubber tubing that i ran the rope through from the rewind housing and this prevented any rubbing and chafing of the pull cord. I held the tubing in place with clamps. I never had another rope break.
It's not too bad, the spring is a bitch though. I had my engine out/apart last season and replaced the rope as PM. It looked good, but rather have new rope than break one at a bad time.
You'll need heat, as in a warm shop to work in. I do not recall if there is a trick to not unwinding the spring, but if there is I missed it. If the spring comes out just keep working with getting back into place. It's been a year since I did it so I'm sure my recall is not great. Someone I'm sure has recently had one apart and can give you some more tips!
