smoking white when start up

on my srx 700 has been smoking alot when i start it up. ran it on the asphalt so i had to run water in it so i cool it down at the track. pulled all three pipes off of the muffler started it up to see if one pipe smoke more than the other. they seem to smoke all the same. i was talk to a buddy and he said it could be the water pump leak into the crankcase. is that possible? or does any one have anyother ideas.
 
the smoke is white. and i have what seems like moisture in the exhaust. wheni was running it in the summer. thats when i had water in it. seem to gotten worst sincew i put coolant back in it. but it smoles out all three pipe when it is running. pulled heads off and o rings look good to me.

Water is a by-product of combustion (in a perfect world, the only by-product).

How long do you let it run? It wouldn't be uncommon to have moisture out the exhaust for 5-10 minutes after start up. Does the smoke clear and moisture dry up after it's been running for 15 minutes or more (everything good and hot)?

Are you loosing coolant? If not, I'd chalk it up to condensation.

If it were mine I'd get it good and hot (normal operating temp), mark the coolant level and drive it if you can and recheck. Or the best thing would be to again get it hot and pressurize the system (look at the cap for system pressure spec) and look for a pressure decay.

If you're loosing pressure (after letting it stablize for a minute or two), leave it under pressure and check for external leaks. If none are found look down the plug holes for coolant. If none found start it for a few seconds and look for white smoke. If it smokes than pull the pipes and find which cyl. is leaking. If nothing obvious than based on what I've read, I'd go after the w/pump.

You could also use a black light and some dye which might help pin-point a very small leak or help show evidence in the exhaust.

it was really hard to see if the water is going down in the summer becasuse i run water from a tap throught through at the back of the sled to cool it down very. so you can br ready to make anyother run. talk to some of the guys that do that they said it is very hard on water pumps. i will get it running and i will try to see iff i'm loose coolant. thanks guys.
