I rode the ol' SRX out to catch this beauty last year, I cant wait to get out there and drop the lines again.

Anyone else get out ice fishing? have any pics to prove your catch?

nothing worth taking a picture of, NICE FISH!! I"m gonna pull a bucketfull of Walleye out of Nippissing this year..LOL
 
I have done a lot of fishing but have never caught or ate a Walleye in my life. I have only heard good things about them too. What would you catch them on when ice fishing? minnow off the bottom?

I know they are right in front of me just never got one on the hook. Where do they tend to hang out in the winter?

you can usually get em off points and ridges, you kinda gotta know where the "holes" are...explore your lake, ask the locals, maybe they'll give up their secret. I usually use a jig and minnow, or a small jigging spoon anywhere from 6-12" off bottom. Make sure your hooks are razor sharp as they don't bite hard in the winter, but kinda "suck" on the minnow
 
Speckled brook trout

I do alot of fishing up here in Labrador have great results too. I have a 8 lb speckle trout if I can get a pic up ill show you. I liked this one that much I had it mounted. I was on my enticer at the time not my srx!

I get out quite a bit in the winter....do a lot of tip-up fishing for pike around here. I also do some spearing for them also. Its a lot of fun!!!! Friends have been out for crappies already and there doing pretty good on a local river. There a lot of fun when you get into them!!!! But you got to watch the ice!!!!! I got a couple pike in the 20lb range through the ice. The most fun I had through the ice is brook trout... Man thats a good time!!!! No pic though
 
We get alot of ouananish, I know thats spelt wrong, but they are landlocked salmon. Now thats a fighter!! I only use a roll of 30 lb salmon twine and a stick for a fishing rod a J hook and a smelt for bait! and of course a 24 of coors light for a seat!! Got No pics though ill see if I can get some pictures of the big beauties this winter! Its caribou season up here also so thats a whole "TRIP" in itself!
 
ya exactly what on1wheel said.... 1/4 once or 3/8 jighead with a minnow. i go right under the backbone. they live a long time down there when rigged up like that. usually around 20 ft for depth. some structure is usually required. it would b nice to run into one of you guys for once!!!! especially fishing and riding up at Nippissing!!!
 
I know the lake pretty well, I usually drop the lines in 80 -100 feet of water, but thats for lakers. For the walleye I should target around 20 ft? If thats correct I think I have a perfect spot, its around 10-12 feet all around but their is a large hole that drops to around 20-25 as a small river flows in nearby. ill give it a try.

Brookies are my favorite fish, I have spent hours wondering rivers floating flies or panther martin spinners. 8 pounds is massive!!!

We ice fish pretty well every weekend, once the ice is good, on the chain of lakes we live on. We are complete Pickerel snobs...don't fish, keep, or eat any other fish. We use the 136"- 2 up - 1996 VMAX4 Trail Mod[ported pipes ect] to haul the ice fishing sleigh and we are not fans of Ice shacks! I have always just fished in areas where we can get out of the wind and have a nice warm fire. The Dog likes it too!

Where do you do your laker fishing? I have done lots in the summer just East of lake of the woods on Dryberry lake. Awsome muskie fishing in that lake also, have caught some muskies over 65 inches. I put up a shack north of Selkirk on the red river and the walleye fishing is great out there...
