Has any one found a product that effectively lubes the O ring on the carb heat selector?
I have tried Dielectric grease but it only works for a short while before the heat selector becomes very hard to turn.

That thing is a pain in the butt.Mine wouldnt turn if the sled was cold or hot.It would turn easy if the motor was luke warm.I just left it on 95% of the time. How much performance are you gonna gain with that!! Is it worth the risk of freezing up a jet and burning down for a very minimal gain in performance?
I have replaced the O ring and lubed it with some synthetic high temp grease this time. I also have drilled a hole thru the knob that is just large enough to allow my small philips screw driver to fit thru it...my plan is to insert the screw driver thru the hole and use it like a wrench to turn the knob.

Slide show Bob - Be careful you might crack the knob. You are better off making an open end wrench that holds on all three sides and stores in the trunk. A piece of .187 thick plate shaped like a wrench with a tri-angle hole to slip over the knob.
leave it ON and forget about it!!!!

Good idea...that would definately put less stress on the knob,
Don't you guys want to turn them off so you lose less coolant when you remove the carbs?

Here is a tool I designed and cut out of 1/4 inch aluminum on my water jet. Its about 2 inches in diameter and makes it very very easy to open and close the valve. I made it that diameter so you could use it on an SRX or a Viper. I came up with the idea out of necessity. $11 plus shipping.

One with a handle would be ideal!

P.M. me . Putting a handle on it just complicates things. Its just like turning on the hose outside your house.
Yamahasrx700 - Your PM box is full !!!

I would like to get one of your little tools for turning the coolant shutoff on and off.
Just send a Paypal invoice for the total . . .

Anti-sez would probably work better,,it's a semi high temp also.sideshowBob said:I have tried Dielectric grease but it only works for a short while before the heat selector becomes very hard to turn.

regular dieelectric grease blows, anything prety much baught at the general hardware store sucks. DC4 is made by dow corning and is very good dosnt get hard like the junk most people use every change a light bulb on a chevy to find a bunch or hard brown junk on it.
We use dc4 to lube most all orings on our aircraft.
