The 08,s are amazing but the 05,s are no slouch. He has about 8 hp more then you & sled is about 40 pounds less.

Your only hope is to run him for a long distance as you may top end him with the triple.

Depends on the year of SX, each year according to yamaha is different. Remember it is DRY WEIGHT, so if you want to race him, race him on 1/4 tank of gas, change your heavy metal skis if you have not, change to a light can, plus you will pick up that 8hp with a good can. There are so many things you and him both can change to make a sled lighter, faster or heavier. So ..........lol

Tripple will for sure top end him, unless geared different, but we do not know if he is running a studded track, or is this SX running one. I know on my SX ( unstudded ) out of the hole, all I do is DIG a hole, also clutching.blueblooded said:Your only hope is to run him for a long distance as you may top end him with the triple.
Big guy or small guy?
I weighed all my parts when I swapped in other parts, and I saved myself a good 34 pounds off dry weight. So per my sled, I would be right there at same weight, but of course mine is not stock.
Your gonna lose 8hp with a can. Drill a 2" hole where your exhaust exits your can & gain some mid. Make sure sled runs at 8500 rpm max. Do a search as 700 mods have been posted a gazzilion times in the last 8 years on here.

ive cc the head read spacers drilled can geared 22 40 studded pin kit cat weights 51-43 rear helix wrapped at 60 51 gram weights transfer rods and studded cerimac coated pipe it comes out at 8100 and creeps to 8400 light perciesion skies lite camoplast track 1 inch i can beat a stock viper and some 670 and 700 xc
For best top end run er another 200 rpm on top. Maybe ground some weight off the tip.

The SX should pull it out.....My 2000 VMax would pull my buddy's 600SDI....Gave the VMax a run for its money, but did win out on top. Sounds like you've got your sled setup pretty well too.

i did the deed.I Found him on saturday we rolled along about 10 mph and hit them.I instantly pulled 4 lengths we ran up to 100 mph he gained about a length. He has spent 1000 bucks on a team tied secondary clutch and 450 on CRA weight arms. I'm sure he will catch me once he has this set up. So tonight I geared mine 21/40 added 2 grams of weight...seems to be pulling harder.
