Wow what a rocket first time on my new viper i am really impressed the only thing that bothers me is when its warm it takes many pulls to start unless i give it throttle then it starts on the first pull when its bone cold i turn the choke on and it starts in two pulls then after riding and its nice and warm it take 4-5 pulls unless i hold the throttle in then it fires right up?

With the pilots + fuel screw settings I use...our piped SXs + my 2002 SRX are the same...always need a little throttle to start when warm, the warmer the day is the more this start technique is required.[ a little rich in the pilot circuit for warm starts] Just the nature of the beast.[even my VMAX4 is the same]

My 99 sx 600 and Viper both needed the throttle cracked when the engine is warm.

I havnt needed to crack mine when its warm. I have the ER with electric start, maybe that helps...
We have 4 triples in our stable, and ride with another triple. Every last one of them we crack the throttle just a little when starting them. Always starts on the first pull. It's just the nature of the motor. The other one that we ride with has electric start, if he doesn't hold the throttle it will start but will run really sluggish until he opens the throttle then it will come alive to normal idle. So yea the holding the throttle open a little bit is completely normal on a Yamaha triple.
Enjoy your Viper!!
