What jetting should I start out with...??

the problem today is the poor quality & inconsistency of pump gas . trail riding & lake running are 2 different enviroments. you can get away w/ leaner jetting on the trail than the lake. the biggest problem is the octane coming out of the pump. who knows what is really going into the tank? could be 84 or lower. it's a crap shoot @ best. i ran 155's in my trail ported ( stock compression ) srx w/ cold air kit, v-force2's & bender silencer. if i had the sled today i would run 157.5's. always jet for the worst conditions.

Nice, curious to see how this works for ya this year. I was considering going to Don for some porting but haven't as of yet. Had some race-logic ported cylinders last year but just couldn't get it dialed in. I'm back to stock now.

We'll have to get some runs on long lake this year then and run them up and down the lake...need another SRX to get er dialed in especially with the new clutch set-up...what do ya think...lol

hey

So I'm guessing 45 Pilots and start with 155's or 152.5's across the board and go from there... Clip should be in what position for a base line or leave it stock..Why on stock jetting 1 carb jetted alittle more rich I always thought it had something to do with the exhaust..

Last year I ran stock motor with cold air kit and gutted airbox..I ran stock jetting and the plugs were a nice golden brown..I'm sure if it got really cold out it wouldn't have been good.. Would like to be alittle rich if anything want the old girl to hold together..

;)! not trying to call you out or anything i'd just hate to see someone take that as gospel and burn down, my opinion- you burned down cause you were lean, like i said earlier i was running 150s cold air with gutted box and i had one cyl leaner than i like for my riding

For piston wash... you have to take the cylinder out right?...

Im changing rings on the pistons over the summer... engine has about 4500 km's on it now... and its been running on the same jetting since it had the port and polish... the ony thing different would be where its getting the gas...

nope do it with a good light through your plug hole, do a search, alot of info here on it, bikeman used to have pics on their site that were how i like mine on a trail sled with todays fuel, i'll see if i can find the link

Yes you are correct I basically said that I was running really lean...which I don't want to do again

hey

If Don (MrViper) wants to chime in anytime would be much appreciated...;-)

I have the 45 pilots now.. I think this will work

Details: 2001 Yamaha 700SRX,
* Heavy Ported by Mr.Viper (Was on Donald's Sled)
* Stock Compression
* Cold Air Kit
* Gutted AirBox
Wondering what Jetting and Clip Position...Would like to be alittle rich rather than lean for sure and then go from there..

What do ya think? ;-)
Got everything sorted out except jetting...then she's all ready to start testing :letitsnow

no one can't tell about jetting ...it all depends of the porting ...if don make them he must know where to start .....i'm running 160 and all 3 ...make sure to start ritch and read piston wash and plug ...i burn 3 piston at 150 so you can see it all depend of the porting ...gutted air box will give u hard time to jet it properly

BOB,S POST HERE IS THE WARNING GUYS. JET UP AND BE SAFE WITH TODAYS CRAP PUMP FUEL OR RUN JETTING TO BE FIRST ACROSS THE LAKE, BUT YOU BETTER USE RACE GAS. SORRY, ITS A FACT TODAY. 3:16 (yammie tony)
